Happy Birthday Doc. I had to remind my Dad, a WWII Navy Fly-Fly boy what happened on 10/13/1775. The great thing is he knows 11/10/1775 and lets me know every year.
Fair winds and following seas Doc.

Both the Corps and the Navy know their birthdays.

The Corps claims Tun Tavern as where they were "born."

    Where was the Navy "born?"

No one seems to know. Wherever the Continental Congress was meeting on Oct 13, 1775. Probably in Philly but an exact location?????

    Anyone have an answer?

Cmdr, I'm surprised that your NE heritage failed you on this:

My NY heritage compells me to go with the NY origins.

"Ferriero will bring documents from the National Archives that detail the claims of the parade of communities asserting Navy paternity, which also include Marblehead and Beverly, Mass.; Philadelphia and Providence, R.I."

I've been reading about this. Seems as if it's still open for debate. Looking forward to what this gentleman has to say. But after 235 years, I still have my doubts it will be settled. I do see he did include Philly

    BTW, thanks for the link
