    Shipping to MCRD SD

So, my shipdate was recently moved from Dec 20th to August 23rd, and I was wondering how you actually get to the Recruit Depot. I am asking because I use to work at the local airport(PDX) and was hoping to be able to go through and see my old workers and get a free meal out of it before leaving. I know, a small thing, but free food is wonderful. Do recruits go on a commercial flight to boot camp, or something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.

My recruiter gave me a ride to the bus station where I got on a trailways and rode it to Denver (MEPS). Flew from Denver to San Diego commercial.

Once at the Airport, were you allowed to go to any of the food places past the security?

You're pretty much on your own until you get off the plane in San Diego. Just don't miss the plane while you're eating your free cheeseburger

I'm assuming you're out of RS Portland. Here's the breakdown (unless things changed):

-You will walk from MEPS to the MAX station about 2 blocks away. Ride the train to PDX.
-MEPS will give you a $20 food voucher to use at the airport.
-At the airport, you can do whatever to pass the time (pay phones, eat, rest)
-In San Diego, you will check into the USO and wait for the buses to MCRD

Wow, thank you Marines. I quit my job there to give me the boost to walk through the recruiters doors, so this will be nice to see them and show them I wasn't just blowing steam.

Anything for a free meal -- you'll fit in just fine in the Corps.

    Good luck.

But I suggest that you save your chest pumping and steam blowing until you actually earn the title, then, you will have some steam to blow off. Don't do it while you are still a nasty civilian, that's bad juju, wait until the moment is right - and use some humility.
