Pendleton gunnery sgt. collapses, dies

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A Marine staff NCO died Tuesday after collapsing at a Camp Pendleton vehicle facility, officials said.
Gunnery Sgt. Robert L. Hundall Jr., 34, was working in a motor transport facility about 1:30 p.m. when he passed out, said 1st Lt. Ken Kunze, a 1st Marine Division spokesman. Emergency medical technicians responded to the building and took him to the Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, where he did not regain consciousness; he was pronounced dead one hour later.
An autopsy was planned, and Kunze said the cause of death is still under investigation.
Hundall, of Bergen, N.J., enlisted in 1994 and had completed deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, including a 2002 Marine expeditionary unit deployment, Kunze said. Hundall was assigned as a motor transportation maintenance chief with 5th Battalion, 10th Marines, at Camp Pendleton.
His military awards and decorations include the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal; Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal; Navy Presidential Unit Citation; Navy Unit Citation; Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Hundall was married, Kunze said.
