    Mos?

i just have a quick question about MOS's. lets say for example i would choose 3381-Food Service Specialist. would i get sent overseas and still be in combat, or would i be at a base making food or something? i understand wherever they need you whether it be in Afghanistan or wherever, you will get sent there. but do you first have to fight, and then get sent to do whatever your MOS is? like when you graduate do you then get sent straight to do your MOS? sorry im confused and i probably sound like an idiot haha.

Simple answer: why would they train you in an MOS if you were just going to be doing a grunt's job?

You do boot camp, MCT, MOS school, get sent to a duty station, and from then on it's your MOS first, rifleman second. You'll still be trained in the event you have to shoot at the baddies, but if you're a cook chances are you'll be cooking.

"Every Marine is a basically trained rifleman". Which means that no matter WHAT your MOS, you stand a chance of walking a post, in the middle of the night, with a rifle, and the Taliban come over the wire (like what just happened this week to some Marines from VMAQ-2, who are aviation types...'Wingers' in Marine jargon) and you'll be expected to bring fire on target.

Next day, you'll be back to cooking, turning wrenches, or working in the office.

Sorry, no disrespect. I was about to change it but I just hoped nobody would catch it.
