Well Gentlemen,
There ain't as many Docs as there are Marines active or inactive.
They are probably busy as hell all the time.
Ours were. Rarely seen'em idle.
They were always busy with something and most of us
Jarheads had no idea what it was but they were always
busy fixing this working on that all the damn time.
Doc Pete at the Stumps spent so much time jacking with his
field gear I though he would wear it out. Always messing with it.
Everything had to be perfect all the time.
My old Bud, Doc Mitchel told me you Docs do that because
you want to know where everything is at all times and you
never know when it will be needed.
Gear has to fit good and be half assed comfortable at least
so you can move fast and easy to get to where you are needed.
Told me that in Viet Nam he was constantly working with his gear
and side arm when not working on a Marine.
Doc asked me the other evening, over a cold brew on the front
porch.
"when exactly were you born Danny?"
I said July 66.
He said damn, I was in Nam then.
I just stared at the lawn and got goose bumps.
All my respect Docs.
