suggestions: Does and Don'ts at MEPS

    Hello Marines,

I have just recently gone to MEPS and took my asvab. I was stressing out on getting a decent score but ended up getting a 74 which I am more then happy with considering when i took the practice at my recruiters office I only scored a 46. I was supposed to get my physical also but my paperwork got lost so I wasn't cleared should be going back sometime this week....

Anyways my Question to the Marines out there is what are the does and don'ts at MEPS?
I know what they told me when I was there like no hats, say yes sir and not ya , no gum and things like that I just thought maybe there were some untold tips out there. Thanks for your time

Do exactly what you're told, be respectful at all times, no lipping off, and just use your common sense.

Thanks for the advice i will definitely not be lipping off by any means.... Is there anyway to make the process go quicker or better way to go about it? like is driving yourself any better ? things to look out for or ways to make it not seem like such a hurry up and wait process ? Just really curious because I should be there again this week and I did a lot or waiting to wait around and i didn't even go through the physical or sign papers ?

    Thanks again

There's nothing you can do. It's all part of the process. You need to relax and let things happen.

Act like your mother and father were taking you out and you were to be on your best behavior.....

Use ALL the "Golden Rules" that you should have been taught and learned as a child.

ACT like you are going for a job interview that you need....to feed your pregnant wife, mother in law and five crib creatures.

Dress appropriately but not overdone for Saturday night and not Wal-Mart commando with half your azz hanging out.

Treat others as you would like to be treated and you should be alright. Do not try to be something that you are not.

If you get stuck in a hotel room with some Army recruit don't get on your high horse. At that point you two could swap places and no one would no the difference.

Right. Don't know anyone who would ever do that?

I suggest not pi*sing in the morning when you wake up. In fact, try not to pi*s until you have to do it in the cup. I say that because I remember being one of the guys that waited around for like an extra hour just downing water, because I didn't have to go.

When you talk to the Marine liaison at MEPS, I suggest standing with your arms behind your back. He will more than likely take note of that. Also, if you can, try to recognize the Marine rank structure (at least the Staff NCOs, as the Marines at MEPS will more than likely be such) and use their proper rank. Then again, if you are unsure, "Sir" is best. I would hate for you to call a Gunny a Staff Sergeant.

Welcome to the Marine Corps. Hurry up and wait. Standby to standby. Get used to it, its the way it is. As has been said, do what you're told, when you're told and do it exactly as you were told to. The Marines at MEPS are the ones f***ing this cat, you're just holding the tail, so try to keep it out of their way.

Thank you Marines I am leaving to go the hotel in about 30 mins and then I will be going through MEPS tomorrow. Thanks for all the advice I appreciate it a lot. One more quick question. When I'm there tomorrow if everything goes like it is supposed to then I will be signing my contract right? and getting my ship date?

Dang. If you are able, bring a book. It'll help pass the time. Paperback that you can fit into a pocket is best. Something mindless but NOT 'girly/porn/etc etc'. Something USMC related is fine.

    Just a suggestion.
