    mos 2847

    can anyone tell me a little bit about this mos? where is the school and how long is it? im seriously thinking about doing a lat move into this mos since mine is closed.

    2847? I was 2841,,,,, long school, long ago.

    If you get sent to a Radio Battalion, you'll end up doing simple troubleshooting/repairs on things like radios, making coax cable, and working with the maintanence unit get gear fixed and issued.

    I'm pretty sure they can be sent to any unit, but outside of a RadBn, I dunno what they'd do. I only met one on the 31st MEU while I was there and that's what his jobs were.

    Here's what the MOS manual (MCO 1200.17A) says...

    MOS 2847, Telephone Systems/Personal Computer Repairer (Sgt to Pvt) PMOS

    a. Summary. Telephone systems/personal computer repairers are trained
    to diagnose, modify, and perform repairs on telephone equipment,
    switchboards, Marine Corps Common Hardware Suite (MCHS) computers, peripheral devices and related equipment. Typical duties include repairs and the alignment to ground common telephone equipment and Marine Corps Common Hardware Suite (MCHS) computers, requisitioning of parts, and completing equipment repair orders.

    b. Prerequisites
    (1) Must be a U.S. Citizen.
    (2) Must possess an EL score of 115 or higher.
    (3) Must have normal color vision.
    (4) Must be eligible for a secret security clearance.
    (5) Must have completed 1 year of high school algebra.

    c. Requirements
    (1) Complete the Basic Electronics Course and the Telephone
    System/Personal Computer Intermediate Repair Course, at MCCES 29 Palms, CA.
    (2) Marines must have 36 months obligated service remaining upon
    graduation from the Telephone System/Personal Computer Intermediate Repair Course. This obligated service must be obtained prior to execution of PCS (DUINS) or PCA (DUINS) orders to the course.

    d. Duties. For a complete listing of duties and tasks, refer to reference (s), 2800 Ground Training and Readiness Manual.

    e. Related SOC Classification/SOC Code. Telecommunications Equipment
    Installers and Repairers, Except Line Installers 49-2022.

    f. Related Military Skill. None.
