To some, it seems all roads eventually lead Marines back to Eastern North Carolina. The departing commander of the II Marine Expeditionary Force hopes that will be true in his case.


Lt. Gen.-select Martin R. “Marty” Berndt turns over command of the II MEF to Maj. Gen. Henry P. “Pete” Osman in a 10 a.m. ceremony today at Camp Lejeune’s W.P.T. Hill Field.


Berndt has been selected to command Marine Forces Atlantic in Norfolk, Va., a position that includes a promotion and a third star.
