meps?

Hello, My son is 17 and has been talking to a recruiter. He wants to join the DEP. The recruiter has told him that they will take him to meps after singing a few things, and at meps he will take the ASVAB and get sworn in.

My questions are: What would he be singing at age 17?
Sworn into what?

I am not a Marine but I would tell your son to ask his recruiter if he can take the ASVAB before he heads to MEPS. Depending on where you live you can take the ASVAB and other locations. This is what I did and it made my day and MEPS much easier. From what I understand since your son is 17 he will need a parental consent form signed by one if not both parents (not sure). At MEPS he will be signing for a MOS that he wants, length of service, active duty or reserves. However, when I enlisted they didn't have the job I wanted but my recruiter was able to find it later. He will be sworn in but will also be sworn in again on the day he ships to boot camp.

I hope this helps. I'm sure there will be a Marine come around shortly but I think I was able to answer your questions.

Thank You WMarine, those links helped out quite a bit. There was some very good info. there. Thank you also Jensen 139 for the information and advice. I was also told by a family member who is a former Marine to take the ASVAB first, before signing anything, but it seems the recruiter did not give my son that option. I'm sure the recruiter would just like to get it all taken care of as soon as he can. Thanks Again
