    SSgt,

i would like to know about the school. what a sample schedule is like. i know that i will get assigned a embassy or delegate upon the needs of the Marine Corps and the state department. i know now that Sgt's and below go to three different embassies on their tours and spend a year at each embassy.

Well, I'll lay it out for you as best I can.

    Typical day at the academy...

You will PT everyday/every other day. If it is not running, it will be calestinics or various types of trainig which are composed of Defensive Tactics using the PR-24, some martial arts, OC-spray, etc. You will be pepper sprayed, with the stream and spray, but it is fun. They will take pictures of you so enjoy..

Then it will be hurry up and get in to the classroom where you will be going over knowldege base info for the mission (Embassy or Consulate) and what your job will be.

You will be assigned to a SNCOIC and he will be monitoring you and your character every day and you will be given a review either every 2 or 3 weeks. This is not a review to get you kicked out or anything but more or less, to keep you on your toes so do your best.

You will run about 2 PFT's while you are there and maybe the CFT, I'm not totally sure about the CFT. If you want to stand out from the rest, you will give a maximum effort at all times...believe me, this will help on your review by the SNCOIC and by the review panel towards the end of the MSG school. Many of us were throwing up after our PFT becuz everyone will be very competitive on the PFT.

You will be tested on your knowledge and practical application of Defensive tactics and if you can perform them correctly and efficiently and you will be tested on whether you know and can operate the equipment (Post 1, Post 2) effectively so pay attention even though it is not rocket science.

You will be allowed to go on libbo on the weekends (maybe 1 or 2) so stay out of trouble. You can go up to DC and hang out or you can go anywhere you want as long as you are back when they say be back.
Of course, make friends with your fellow Devil Dawgs and don't be a stiff just because you are at MSG school but stay on point and remember why you are there.

Read the info and wear the correct clothing when you check in to MSG school. DO NOT BE LATE CHECKING IN AND ARRIVE EARLY AS POSSIBLE.

You will have a panel review near the end of the school, they will basically talk with you to see where your head is and if you are suited to be on MSG and walk the walk with the Ambassador and other Fed govt employees.
Know that they will ask you allot of questions and if you say you are a big alcohol drinker, you will probably be sent back to your unit after the review panel. Hint, Hint..

You will also have a talk with and be checked on by Mr. Miagi (Dept of State) while at the school. He will talk to you, you will find him interesting. I think he is still there and comes down to the MSG school. Mr. Miagi is what everyone calls him.

    Now, for the important stuff.

Make sure you have ALL your gear for Inspection, you will have MANY inspections. If you do not have your gear for inspection, go buy it and USE IT ONLY FOR INSPECTION!!

If you are missing anything, you will fail. If you have ANY irish pennants or dirt on your clothing and/or your gear is not marked, you will fail. They will give you measurements to adhere too so make sure it is spot on acurate.....they will use a ruler to measure so be prepared. The reason for this is becuz while you are out on MSG, you will have 'JOB', or Junk-on-the-Bunk inspections by the OIC when they come to visit. Make sure you have all your crap together before you go and make sure it is clean and marked.

You will go to the range over near the FBI/DEA facilities to practice, shoot and qualify with weapons. You will shoot the pistol (357 magnum), 870M shotgun, Uzi submachine gun, MP5, etc but you will only have to qualify with the pistol and 870M. Take your time, follow directions and hit the target and you should be good to go. They will show you pics of Marines who have purple/blue/black shoulders who did not hold the shotgun properly, the pics are fun to look at...

Other than that, the training and the school is great. When you walk across that stage and they call your name and say where you are going, be prepared to be spoiled and treated like a KING for the next 3 years.

Drivers to take you anywhere you wanna go.
Cooks to cook you whatever you want.
    Maids to clean your laundry.
Parties every weekend at the MARINE house.
Everyone will be $h!t Faced !!

You will be assigned a duty (Bar NCO, Mess NOC, etc)
Stay on top of this as you will have an audit monthly so don't F*&^ UP!

Re-ac drills are the best!! They are fun starting at 03:00 or 04:00 in the morning. Always keep your tennis shoes/shorts/shirt beside your bed, you will need it!

I think I may have answered your questions but if you have more, let me know.

    Typical Day on MSG:

Wake up for PT or wake up at 04:30 for a Re-Ac drill. You might b able to drive to the Embassy but you will probably run there and participate in a scenario where some group of people have taken over the Embassy or Consulate and your job is to get inside, by any means necesssary, get to your gear and clear the area. The RSO or another Marine will probably play the bad guys and then its time to play.

    *****
Our Gy used to make us run everytime. The Embassy was 3 miles away. He would leave before us in the van and hide somewhere along the way and shoot us with paintball guns while he was hiding in a freekin tree or something. We had to carry the wounded Marine to the Embassy taking turns along the way. Then the local guards would be away from the gate so we would have to either scale the wall around the compund or find another way inside while he was still hiding on the compound and shooting us with the paintballs (Mann, those freekin things hurt). Then we had to find a way inside the Embassy where Gy would eventually meet us. Somehow, the enemy would get inside and take over a section of the building and we had to clear the building and free the hostages, if any (which is usally the RSO playing along).

    Afterwards......
Back to the Marine house for a class given by another Marine.
Or depending on what hours you're working, Days, Eve's or Mids, you get dressed, go to work or the rest of the day is yours.

You may have to go in for your additional job duties or for training.
I can't go into too much detail but if you go to work, you will be at Post 1, Post 2 or a Rover. Post 2 is usually on the side door and the Rover fills in and walks, also assists in taking care of any issues which may come up when crazies are causing trouble and they need to be 'Physically removed from the premises'.

Other than that, that's about it. MSG is great and there can be rewards in the long run. The best times on MSG are everyday but mostly Fri, Sat and Sun!! Trust Me!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks SSgt. that kind of reminds me on being deployed on ship. we had to run drills like that everyonce in a while. always funny trying to watch a bunch of Marines trying to find their way in the dark on a outer catwalk 150 above the water trying to get to their workspaces for muster during a Man Over Board drill.

What should i know/study prior to MSG screening/school

    Good Afternoon All,
The title basically says it all. What knowledge should i know prior to screening, and assuming i pass the screening process what should i know/study prior to school to have a "leg up" on everyone else? Also, how much does MOS play in the selection process? I'm an 1142, electronic equipment repair specialist (basically utilities). Does rifle score, MCIs, PFT/CFT, pros and cons play a large part in the deciding factors?

MOS doesn't matter at all. They pull from all MOS's. As with anything in the Marines, PFT does matter. However that won't stop them from selecting you.

Credit and Criminal history are big for dis-qualifiers. You have to prove to the screeners that your mature enough to be entrusted with US Classified. The friend I went with to my screening was disqualified for too many speeding tickets. It showed that he was "irresponsible".

As for getting a "leg" up. Just get your uniforms squared away and get your PFT up. Everything else will fall into place. MSG school is a LONG day. Up at 4am...in training all day and your finally cut lose around 2000. Thats when your supposed to study and square away your uniform.

I HIGHLY recommend getting some no-doz for the classes. You will be tired! I used to watch everyone run for the soda machines to get some caffine and still have troubles staying awake. One no-doz and I was good to go for the afternoon!

Oh...and fill out your profile before someone gets on you about it.
