    Any Marine Parents. Advice PLEASE.

My wife and I are pregnant. She is not comfortable with the sheep-ish treatment of NHCL and was supposed to be referred to town but the naval hospital picked her up. We have experienced a miscarriage once before and I'm no comfortable with the naval hospital myself when it comes to the care of my unborn child.

I was wondering if anyone knows a way Her and I can get her referred to Womens Healthcare Associates who was her previous doctor and knows her history.

any advice is appreciated and I already know I'm going to get "deal with it. Naval Hospital was good enough for countless other pregnancies" but seriously thats not advice its an opinion.

I am not sure but I would think the best bet would be to talk with her current doctor over your concerns. That way HE knows the history and if it is deemed a "high risk" pregnancy they can take appropriate action. I had both my kids while I was in the Corps. My daughter was born at Trippler in HI which has a HORRIBLE reputation for childbirth issues. I had an issue come up, and when the doc wouldn't give me the time of day to hear my concerns I raised a hell of a stink. He tried to pull rank (him being an Army major and all) and I lost my bearing a bit. Next thing I know I am in front of my CO explaining myself. Luckily for me I had a GREAT chain of command, and my CO actually let me speak after ripping me a new one. After hearing my side he had the hospital CO on the phone and I had a new doc. My point with this story is right is right. If you have a GENUNE concern, bring it up, and get the treatment your wife and child need. Just use a little more tact than I did, and use your chain of command.

You talk as if this is your first child and you blame the Naval Hospital for the last miscarriage. The miscarriage was nobody's fault - it was just God's way of saying "not right now you don't".

Tell Mama better luck this time. If either of you are so concerned about where she goes, buy an individual insurance policy and go where you want to go. If money is a concern, well.................you're both pretty much stuck with the Naval Hospital.

My wife and I had 5 miscarriages before we were able to have our first child, 2 of those involved Naval hospitals. Were they part of the reason she had the miscarriages, yes and no. There is no way to stop a miscarriage, but after she had one they took the point of view of "it just wasn't meant to be." Guess what there was a medical problem that they didn't even check for after the miscarriage.
We did end up getting to see a civilian Dr., we had to get a Navy Dr give us a referal for a specialist, it is a long drawn out process. I will pray for you and your wife.

I was just wondering if there was a way to get a referral. If we can't obviously I say suck it up but I mean her primary care is a civilian doctor but the pregnancy is going through the naval hospital where as the last one was taken care of in town.

The way I understand it is she is a woman and wants a doc shes completely comfortable with, not a billion mid wives and doctors.

I totally understand! I had enough of them between my legs to TOTALLY understand. And it does put an added stress on a pregnancy to dread going to your next appointment. Ya'll relax a little - tell her to look at it this way - some places will usually only have a Doc come in IF there IS some sort of problem. Most midwives are great! Women have babies everyday - as long as there is no physical reason for it......................quit worrying so much.

I know how she feels about the one Doc thing but, that's just the way it works in the military.

I had one Doc in Japan that swore and be damned I was having a miscarriage when I wasn't even pregnant. I literally bled for a freakin month, false positives on tests, in and out of Medical for a couple of months. You know what it was? When I got to Japan they changed my birth control pill - told me that the ones I took in the States were too strong and they weren't in abundance there in Japan. It TOTALLY messed me up! Then he gave me a pack of the bcp that I should have been on and tells me to take 5 a day and I should quit and start having normal periods after that. Wrong!

The last time I went in to Medical, they took another pregnancy test that came back with a false positive. I said "I want to see another Doc". Next thing I know I'm on a gurney, interpreter by my side and they took me in town to see a GYN. This man figured out in 20 minutes (this included an exam AND ultrasound) what was wrong. Needless to say, I was put back on the original bcp's and everything was right in the world again.

    It's a crap shoot, I know.
