Sounds typical. Gyms today are not staffed/managed like they used to be (budget constraints). My niece goes to her area gym at Camp LeJeune - same deal. Nobody around to ask questions to or help with anything. When there is, they don't know anything (I got the impression it is a civilian running the place). She said the Marines there are on their own after a certain time.

We went to visit her last year. Nobody knew anything. MP's at the front gate were useless. Stopped at the gas station by the main MCX to ask for directions. Same deal there. Marines we talked to had no clue on how to get to where we needed to go (they either just reported in and were unfamiliar or were only there TAD from somewhere else). Maybe they were following OPSEC rules, I don't know. She was finally able to give us directions over her cellphone after she got out of field day (which had to be redone because her barracks failed inspection).
