How hard is it to re-enlist in the Reserves?
I have an honorable discharge.
Promoted to the rank of Sgt/E-5
The only bad record I have is a 1st time DUI at .08 BAC.

Questions about joining the IRR and RR
Sorry if these question have been answered already but from what I see it hasn't. I EASed on 20101226 as 0621 Sergeant, inactive contract doesn't end until sometime in the summer of 2014.I currently worked for the railroad and I'm interested in joining the reserves but I'm currently receiving 50% disability from the VA. I talked to the prior service recruiter and he said that I could joined the unit thats around the corner from my house and they could OJT me for Landing Support Specialist.
Now comes my questions.
1.By me receiving 50% disability would I still receive it if I join the IRR?
2.What happens after drilling a few times I find out that I don't like it, Could I quit?
3. What will happen after joining the IRR and my time is up, do I reenlist over from being IRR to Regular reserves?
4.If so being in the regular reserves do I still keep my disability?
5. Is it 100% up to me if I would want to deploy or not?
I ask these questions to the recuiter but he didnt really give me much info. I just need other Marines advice.
Thanks

I am trying to get back in active duty. I got out in 07 as a CPL mos 6176 mv22 crew chief. I got out because i took full custody of my son and didn't want to chance my ex getting him back. I Have since had her parental rights terminated and am remarriad. I've wanted back in since the day I got out. I'm now 28 and working as an EMT in oakland. I've read up alot online about how hard it is to get back in. I have a reenlistment code of re1a and would like to get back in as a crew chief but I will take any mos thats open just to get back in. My biggest concern is that while I was in I got a dwi I was young and made a dumb mistake but because of how well I worked and how responsible I was out side of work with my son my CO decited that I had learned my lesson and did not need to face NJP. I want back in and will do anything to do it. Trying to find out my chances or if the dwi is gonna kill it.
