    Hi Folks.
Is you can probably tell by my handle I am a Brit'

I've lived in Liverpool since leaving the British Army 22 years ago (10 years served) My old man (RIP) served with the Royal Marines AKA 'Boot-Necks' through the whole of WWII and did not leave the service until the 50s.

I am a member of a cousin web site to this one known here in the UK as the Army Rumour Service or ARRSE http://www.arrse.co.uk/

There is a reason I have joined this site which I will explain in a later post but first I'd like to know from you what you opinion of stolen valour (Valor) is. Here in the UK there are no laws that exist to punish perpetrators of this subject which my fellow site members and I wish to change.

The US Marine Corps is known world wide as being one of the proudest, and honorable establishments of all the armed services in America and unlike here in the UK your Government appreciate you during and AFTER your service.

There is obviously a time zone difference between us so bare with me if I appear to be slow in replying.
    BTW I was with these
    All the best
    T.L.

    Welcome aboard.

Feel free to post your questions or concerns on stolen valor as it is a very important subject among us. We, in the States, are fortunate to now have laws prosecuting people who pose even as non-combat military veterans, along with those who falsely claim awards for combat valor.

The best part is that some of those people ARE being prosecuted and I think it is having a effect on some of the other poseurs, slowing them down a bit at least when it comes to displaying medals and the like.

TL, I find it deplorable that one would pose as having achieved valor. Several groups of former members of units within the U.S. military have formed investigative teams to investigate claims of valor by suspect claimants.

I know they exist for Purple Heart winners, persons claiming to have been Navy SEALS, and a few others. The greatest satisfaction is listening to someone brag about exploits on foreign soil, and then asking them some unique question like, "What was your maximum effective range on a group target for your M-60?" or "did you ever use a lighter or fag to light your det-cord?"

I did this once at a party to a person that was a colleague of my wife. I did it while he and I spoke alone. Once he was caught, he had the balls to ask me not to out him. I just told him that if I ever heard of another story coming from his mouth about the military other than paying tribute, I would introduce him to the true meaning of Teufel Hunden!!!

    Thanks

    Hi Folks.
Firstly, I am sorry for not stating my real name on my profile at this stage. ( Per Sec)
Thanks for the replies so far. So, to set the scene a little.....
Approximately a year ago one of our members openly questioned the authenticity of some claims by this person only to be threatened with legal action, ( Ex special forces, SAS, Royal Marines etc ) up until then, such threats had been taken seriously by others and the matter was dropped. But like I would expect of yourselves, ranks closed, and an investigation began. We have over the last 11 months uncovered a web of total fiction that would make the most proficient writer envious.

We have utterly destroyed his CV and one of the larger papers over here exposed him as a 'dreamer' However, this guy has built a business on his lies over 30 odd years and is still plying his trade as an authority to the military, media, and worst of all, some nations governments, We have discovered a more sinister side that, as yet, the authorities have unbelievably, taken no action on!

This guy, although of similar ilk, is nothing compared to our subject, >> http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...s-a-fraud.html

Our 'customer' is far worse. The reason? He has duped his way to the top! And the 'top' ( we believe ) is covering his, (Their) ass.

Folks I give you this >>>>>>>>>>

    http://www.arrse.co.uk/wiki/List_of_...Dubious_Claims

    It started here >>

    http://www.arrse.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic/t=104888.html

It will take most people at least a week to follow all of this through but as Brits would say " bloody worth it "
Part 4 is where it becomes VERY VERY serious . http://www.arrse.co.uk/Forums/viewto...6/start=0.html

Fellas, I hope you take this on board, any questions please PM me.
If you do, please send this to the main thread as a 'cause'
    Regards.
    T.L.

Our target is worse than this..........

A TELLY hardman who carved out a lucrative career as an SAS hero can today be exposed by The Sun as a FAKE.

Bob Spour built up a business empire bragging about his service with the Who Dares Wins regiment.
Now the TV regular, radio presenter and magazine columnist even runs a skills school dubbed “SAS Survival”.

Fake ... interviewed by Sun man

But SAS sources have confirmed to us that the 56-year-old never even attempted Special Forces selection — let alone served with the elite unit.

In reality, he spent two years as a regular infantry trooper.
But in a recent article about his time in the SAS, he boasts: “I got involved in lots of little frolics around the world.”
Spour — who had a starring role in National Geographic series The Perfect Weapon — could now face a criminal inquiry for fraud.
Last night, suppliers offered full refunds for his DVD — SAS Fight Secrets Seminar.

    Badge of pride ... SAS
Spour claims to have served with G Squadron between 1977 and 1984, seeing action in the Falklands War, Northern Ireland and South America.
He traded off the turmoil of real heroes by claiming he suffered trauma over the horrors of the Falklands — which he never saw.
But Spour was less brave when we confronted him yesterday at his home in a well-off Birmingham suburb.
He told our man: “I need to speak to a solicitor” — then ducked back inside after spotting our photographer.
Spour promised to get back to us, but never did — failing to answer his phone.
Sun Security Advisor and real ex-SAS hero Andy McNab said last night: “To claim to be part of a Regiment that gives their lives to their country makes me sick.
“Spour is lying about things he can only dream about.”

Limey, your agenda is a a little vague to say the least. Perhaps you can enlighten us to what you are hoping to achieve?

If you are looking for examples of our Stolen Valor Act to assist in putting some specifics before your MPs for a similar law in England, this is the link to the US federal law known as the "Stolen Valor Act:"

    http://bulk.resource.org/gpo.gov/law...ubl437.109.pdf

The purpose of the Act is to strengthen the provisions of 18 U.S.C. § 704 by broadening its scope and strengthening penalties.

    Hi Zulu.
Yes we are aware of this but no such laws exist here in any way or form.

Maybe British vets organizations should get together and publicly lean on your MPs to stop renting pornos on the taxpayer's shilling and get something like this on the books. That is how it happened here.

Unfortunately we can't get them to stop spending our money like idiots too.

The American Legion, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and others, all got together and pushed Congress pretty hard on this law. Military vets are a large voting bloc and can be hard to ignore sometimes. There are twenty-some legitimate veterans groups here in the States and when they all get together in one room with some Congressmen, they're scary. They've got Obama worried right now.

    My / our Agenda?
Under current UK law our ' Baron James Shortt of Castleshort ' is not libel to prosecution under Valor ( Valour ) legislation.
However, he has over the years, led others to believe many lies based on false claims of military service that has assisted him to build a multi national security company, along the way fooling British governments not excluding the USA ( FBI )
My / our agenda is simple. We want him bringing to justice for the laws broken that he IS accountable for under both UK and international law.
Our problem or reason for an agenda, is that, those in authority have too much to lose in bringing this guy to court. ( Can of worms )

Very interesting from 30 minutes in.. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...42808364289109 (IED lessons ?)

    http://www.arrse.co.uk/Forums/viewto...start=740.html
    Discussed Above.

Bottom line ? If we can't skin him for false valour, we'll have justice by other means ( Legal ) Your FBI and other agencies have to date ignored emails. Perhaps, as is believed, because we have to go through British channels.
Guys. We are talking about a man that has taught counter terrorism without real qualifications and more seriously, may have 'indirectly' cost the lives of American soldiers, US Marines, and Our own British forces through the teaching of paramilitary courses both in the RoI and as documented, Latvia.
Other Misdemeanors are listed on the thread I linked to in my first post,
( Firearms, explosives, fraud etc etc )

    T.L.

PS. At the very least, we would welcome the attention of the US Media.

    A Quote>

"Shorrt made a fatal mistake in laughing at HM Forces 11 months ago and did not realise that we may have Inter Capbadge rivalry & take the pi66 out of each other. When a failed outsider mocks us then we close ranks all Nationalities, shoulder to shoulder & toe to toe. All ages, serving & retired. Attributes Shortt has never seen. His wearing of fake medals will be his Waterloo."

People like him usually set themselves up very well for the fall.

The FBI normally will not respond to e-mailed complaints of this nature. The best way to get their attention is a formal letter from a law firm. You would need specifics of violations of US law, which could include fraud and weapons violations. Some specific evidence would be very necessary.

The FBI doesn't open cases as easily as some people think (although they do open cases for some things a lot easier than people think). A complaint that merely appears to be about some Brit posing as a military wonk may not make the cut.

However, if a British law firm, or better, a US law firm working in conjunction with a British firm, might make an impression. The US lawyers would have a much better idea who specifically to send such a letter within the FBI.

If this hairball did consulting work for the FBI, remember, any publicity of a prosecution will be embarrassing for the FBI. They may find it easier to sweep everything under the rug and tell you it is a British only problem - go see Scotland Yard.

However, the FBI might informally look into the matter and if they find some truth to the allegations, Baron Shortdick (or whatever) may suddenly stop getting contracts and referrals from US sources.

    Thanks Zulu.
Of course you are correct, the FBI stand to be embarrassed as much as our authorities. This is why I thought I'd bring the matter to the US via forums. There are clearly statements in his CV relating to training US Navy seals among other US establishments all of who believed that he was ex 'special forces' from the UK. ( So much for security there then )
One fact ... Shortt went to train the Mujahideen during the conflict with the Russians. Allegedly, backed by the US as per his Resume' ( CV )
Photo 1 Shortt with RPG ammo, mortars etc.
    & #2 and a student 'training'?

Of course if we can't get the law to do anything, we can still spread the word untill someone takes the 'heads up' Therefore I'd be grateful if the links and other info be passed on to other related sites where possible. ( Even if it's just for others entertainment )

Mixing this thread as an introduction and the point in hand was probably a bad idea. If you can suggest a better angle for a thread starter I'm all ears.
