Marines get muddy for charity during annual challenge
Marines get muddy for charity during annual challenge
By: Jennifer Moxley
BELMONT, N.C. – Marines will be slinging mud Saturday to raise money for a good cause.
The third annual Marine Mud Challenge helps the families of Marines and sailors. Rain or shine, the event will go on.
Last year, more than 600 runners jogged, sloshed and low-crawled through a five-mile obstacle course. This year, the course has been modified to include extra obstacles – and organizers say the recent rain should make for perfect conditions.
Proceeds benefit the wounded sailors and Marines at Camp Lejeune.
To make the challenge more difficult and true to the military philosophy, each team has to stay together for the challenge – leaving a teammate behind means disqualification.
