I am confused as to how all these Infantryman already know their exact MOS within the Infantry Field. I was given the infantry MOS but was told when I get to SOI they will place me based on their needs and there is a slim chance that I can chose a specific if there is an opening. So how is it that some of you are saying you are 0311 rifleman or 0341 mortarman when you havent even gone to recruit training yet? Am I missing something?

They don't know, if you look at an infantry contract it states no specifics mos is guaranteed. It's just what they hope.

Every Marine is a rifleman first and foremost. :-)

I wish someone would change my status to Marine since I graduated.

The reason that I know I have an 0331 Machine Gunner is because I signed a reserve contract. When you enlist into the reserves you go to MEPs knowing the job you will have. It was a surefire way to get what I wanted and I can switch to active duty a few years down the road.
