20110103! I got one month now after waiting so many years... Lets go get some!

I called my recruiter this week. While i cant officially volunteer to leave early until 1211, i told him i wanted to leave early anyway. Got a call today and was told that i should be able to ship in Jan instead of March!

Alright man, sounds good. All I can say is I'm no PT stud, but I'm good at keeping my mouth shut when I need to and I ain't going to be a blue falcon.

Who knows since we're both 03** we might end up going through ITB together.

Spend as much time with your friends and family as you can this weekend, enjoy your remaining freedom, and let's hit those yellow footprints ready. A dream will be a reality soon enough my friend, just 3 months away and we'll have that title.

That's just luck man. I had to be stubborn as a donkey to get my infantry contract. I know guys who would do ANYTHING to get one of those Recon Contracts, I'm talking PT studs who can max out on their IST's and PT longer than anyone else in the pool (one guy I know can do 40 pullups, no joke). So if a lot of people in your pool got infantry and recon, it's because your recruiters worked for it, and you got REALLY lucky.

Congrats on getting the contract though man, it's a good feeling. Since you have a year before you go I would highly recommend spending that reading as much as you can, you need to know what you can be getting yourself into. If you go back a page or two you'll see a thread about books, a lot of good recommendations there (such as "One Bullet Away", "We Were One", "No True Glory", "Shadow of the Sword", etc etc). See if you can find any Infantry guys to talk to. If you do so, and of course if you keep PTing as much as you can, you could be MILES ahead of a lot of other guys going in who don't know much about what they're going into.

Sorry for my ramble there. Good luck on getting prepared and earning the title when the time comes.

After working towards this since February, I finally swore in on Wednesday. It's still a long wait til I ship on 20110907, but finally getting a ship date at all was great. Now I just have to decide on what MOS I should aim for.
