DEP Tatoos
So I acquired a few Tattoos while in the DEP. My recruiter said it was ok. I'm suppose to ship out July 20, he said he would need to take pics and submit a waiver a few weeks before I shipped. Then i asked him today to remind him and he said it was something i would take care of at MEPS on a "preship" form as he called it. Is he right? Or is he just telling me all of this, I would hate to get down to MEPS and not be able to get a waiver. Thanks.

He's wrong. He only wants to be a recruiter so he can waste his life away leading potential shippers all the way to the door, just to have it slammed in their face.

First, why would you get tattoos being in the DEP? In my opinion, you just made a lot of unnecessary paperwork for your Recruiter to do before you ship, and what happens if you don't get a waiver for those tattoos? I'll bet you'll be kicking yourself in the a$$ if you don't get that waiver.
And second, did you try using the search bar before you started this thread? There are quite a few topics on tattoos.
Tattoo question?

If your ship date was to be July 6th, 2009 - then how come you are still here? Or is your ship date wrong in your profile?

Even though this topic is a bit old, here's another topic on tattoos.

I'm assuming that your recruiter is at least a Sgt, if not higher. Don't call NCOs or SNCOs liars unless you want some trouble.

He will need to take pictures and submit them for review.
You will also have to do the same at MEP's.
They look at your tats again to double check their size, placement, content, and other things that I forget.
It may take an extra day or so depending on the line up.
No big deal.
If it is found that your tattoo contains some inappropriate material you will be rejected until you can have it removed or covered.
I hope you have a moto tat.

As a former recruiter, I would not wait to try and get the waivers. Most tattoos get sent to PI for CG waiver. Big question is where are the tattoos and the content of them? This is a situation that needs to be done by the recruiter and not MEPS. If you have a nice MEPS Liasion, they might do it but all depends on how many shippers they have that day. Tell your recruiter that you want to start the paperwork, cause you need to do statements for each tattoo. DON'T WAIT

please tell me none of your tats have any symbolism in regards to devil dogs, USMC, Semper Fi, etc.? Do they?

There was a recruit in my series that showed up with an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on his chest. He was annihilated daily. Anytime someone was on the quarterdeck he was up there getting his as well.
Implying goes hand in hand with assuming. And "when you assume you make an ass of u and me."
