What exactly does a Landing Support Specialist do? I go to MEPS on Monday for my ASVAB and Physical and I am looking at going into the Supply or Logistics field as a reservist. Are any of the jobs in either of those two fields very Combat oriented or will I more than likely be stuck in a warehouse the whole time If I am deployed. I want to see some kind of action and am wondering if I can do it in these two fields and what jobs may ive me the opertunity in these fields to see combat?

Check at the reserve station you want to go to and see what jobs they have open. Might peak some intrests or something. You have 2 options of Landing Support, Charleston SC or Wilmington lol.

I'm an 0481. We have many jobs. Right now while deployed working your MOS its mainly working flight lines loading/unloading the planes and helos of equipment and people. Other situations you would work ports, rails (trains), or LZs for Helos doing Helicopter Support Teams (HST). You'd basically be the new age shore party. You setup all of the LZs, and Beach Landing sites with markers and what not....at least you learn to. The most i've done as an 0481 reservist are HSTs, flight lines, and some ports. I enjoy the job, some find it boring. At least its not like a warehouse clerk or something. As many times as i've done it, HSTs seem to always give me a huge rush. Something about having a 33,000lb CH-53 hovering literally inches above your head. And when its windy? Woo, rocking and rolling baby, i love it.

Action? Depends on if you get sent to Afghanistan or not lol, and then you may not even be doing your MOS there. In Iraq? Assuming you'd get there before the pull out, then no you'll most likely be working flight lines packing everything up. I'm heading there now, on my workup.

CarolinaMarine said it all pretty well. The most "action oriented" MOS in the Logistics field is probably AD (0451), but that doesn't mean they necessarily see combat. They just have a job that has more hands-on type work.

im thinking of 0431 or 0451 as well. i scored high enought on my GT in the ASVAB so i think i will have a good chance at getting it but my recruiter hasnt really gone over how the job section works. every time i ask her she doesnt give me a clear answer.
