7 May 1965
What does 7 May 1965 have to do with the Marines? It was the 1st Landing at Chu-Lia Vietnam. It was the 1st time that Marines were flown off from a ship (LPH Princeton) into a combat zone under combat conditions. It was the 1st time artillery was hellalifted off from a ship ( the Princeton ) . The grunts were 1/4. The arty was Whiskey 3/12. That was me. ( Whiskey 3/12 was 4.2 inch mortars. ) We landed with 1/4. 2/4 and Battery's H and G came in on the beach landing.
