    Grooming Standards.

Anyone who wears the Marine Corps Uniform must abide by the Marine Corps Grooming standards (paragraph 1004 and 8000.2 of the Uniform Regulations). Active duty/Reservists/Retirees and former Marines must also abide by the height and weight standards (paragraph 8000.2 of the Uniform Regulations).

Wear of Proper Insignia and Awards.

When wearing a Marine Corps uniform you may only wear your current rank, or the rank that you left the service with and may only wear the awards you rate per your personnel records. No deviations of this policy are authorized.

Activities where you may not wear the Uniform.

Paragraph 11002 of the Uniform Regulations provides a list of activities that you may not wear the uniform (i.e. to an event that brings discredit to the Corps, to events in support of political interests, private and/or commercial employment…).

    Retiree/Reservist Wear of Uniforms.

As a Retiree/Reservist you may wear the uniform for basically any event that you wore the uniform while on active duty.

As a former Marine there are some restrictions:

You must have served during a time of war (i.e. earned the National Defense Medal during your time in service) and received an honorable discharge to wear the uniform.

Events you are restricted to wearing it to:

Military funerals, memorial services, weddings, and inaugurals.

Parades on national or state holidays; or other parades or ceremonies of a patriotic character in which any active or reserve United States military unit are taking part. ‘Wearing of the uniform or any part thereof at any other time or for any purpose is prohibited.’

Recipients of the Medal of Honor may wear the Marine Corps uniforms at their pleasure except for those specific occasions listed in paragraph 11002 of the Uniform Regulations

The verbage in 1020G has been changed from NDSM requirement to having served during a declared or undeclared war. I suppose someone could read into that, that although they served from say 1980 to 1984 they had served during the cold war.
Thank you, Sgt, for posting the regs on that. I knew I had read the order and noticed the NSDM in there. I suppose there is some room for interpretation, but I think that is pretty straightforward.

Looks like I'm otay, I have the Firewatch and the Honorable.... yeah me

I knew there's a reg for it; thanks for clearing it up.

Funny but true thing about my Firewatch ribbon - I was in bootcamp, on firewatch, the first night of the ground war for the 1st Gulf War.

Can they wear the new desert utilities with no nameplate, but the US Marines Tape and the EGA? Had a guy come in and we wanted to rip his neck off....

Ok, so i'm just trying to get some clarification on a couple of things. I'm a former Marine, I have the "fire watch" ribbon and an honorable discharge, so I technically can wear my dress blue uniforms to my wedding?

Also, I am going to Parris Island in 2 weeks for my cousins graduation, will I be able to get the coat? What do I need to take with me? Do I need my DD-214?

Last thing, as far as wearing my MARPAT cammies, can I keep my name tape on or do I need to take it off? I mean...I earned it...

I think you can wear your iniform if you were honorably discharged, take your DD-214 with you would be a good thing, I couldn't tell you a thing about the name tag on cammies, we wore utilities with no name tag, I wore mine when I got out, Semper FI.

You will not need your DD-214 to get on Parris Island or to purchase anything at the PX or commissary because you will be carrying your reserve card. Right? Right. In the IRR you can still use these facilities. As for cammies, your name tape should be taken off, and no rank insignias if you want to wear them. Yes, earned them, etc., but you are out now, and thats it. Look up the uniform orders, it tells you everything. Also TAPS class should have given you some info on that.

    MCO P1020.34F

It's available online. A few supplements here and there as well. That is the authority. If it ain't in there, don't sweat it.

Just use your common sense and don't publicly discrace the Corps.

Well see the thing is, I got out on a medical discharge that was honorable, not general under honorable conditions, but honorable. It says it on my DD-214. I don't have the IRR i.d., all I have is the Department of Veterans Affairs i.d. and as far as TAPS goes, That was 3 years ago, I don't remember much from it, plus my 1st Sgt had me hemmed up in his office the last day for something.

Can you wear just your cami blouse? greens or deserts.

Hey Everyone, I am a former marine Sgt, and I have an important question for anyone who can answer honestly and can back it up with some sort of excerpt from say the UCMJ or any other rules and regs that would say whether you can or not. The question is, can you wear just your cami blouse, greens or deserts as a civilian marine and in the IRR? ive had some people say you can and cant but i would like to get some clarification if at all possible. Thanks everyone!

So is it safe to assume that if you've completed your obligated service that if you bring your DD-214 with you to a base or PX that you can gain access and purchase replacement uniform items.
