    Combat support MOS?

I was finally sworn in as a poolee April 1st after many months with MEPs and paper work but I went back to my recruiter to pick my MOS field. He gave me a list of the MOS's i qualified for and one of them was Combat Support. I asked him what it was and he stated its like infantry but not quite at the tip of the spear. I have done research trying to find out if there is an MOS for combat support and I have found no concrete information. Is there such a thing or is it just a pretty name for something unrelated?

We use to go by Combat arms, which was infantry, artillery and tanks, but that was moons ago.

HAHA thanks Kim! I was going to post this earlier but duty calls.

Look, Combat Support? You're support. You're not in any spear, especially if you get sent to a CLB or CLR unit. Might as well get a job as a secretary or something.

Combat support is supply, admin, disbursing etc

Ask your recruiter for a Marine enlisted programs list. Mine from fiscal year 2008 has Combat Support with MOS fields of 0800, 1800, and 7200.It also tells you what prereq. are required and wether you have to be M/F. These mos's are tanks, aav's, artillery and air control/air support/anti-air warfare/ air traffic control.

I disagree with the young Corporal, you will be part of the spear because without beans, bullets and bandages you have no spear. I'm also sure if Marines didn't get their pay even while deployed it would create quite a stir. Also it took another poolee to actually help him with his question.

Ahhh my mistake. Combat support may be different, I was tihnking combat service support.

Still, supply is definitely not the tip of the spear, nor is admin nor disbursing. Yeah they're needed, but 3043s didnt take Fallujah.

it seems to me that you want an MOS that will see action but you won't actually put yourself in front as an 0300.

if this is the case, have you considered combat engineer? I'm sure some people here could give you more information but from what I hear, they are right there with infantry as they are responsible for blowing obstacles up, building bridges, and all that kinda stuff.

I also heard that on deployments, MP's see a lot of combat for a non-infantry MOS because of convoy escorts and VIP escorts. Once again, I'm just a poolee and I'm only going by my own research...i'm sure someone can help you much much much better than me if you do actually want an "action" MOS

NO i am not looking for any "light infantry" MOS I had just never heard of that MOS before and when my recruiter presented it to me I was curious if it actually was anything.

Ain't a damned thing wrong with being in the rear with the gear - I thought EVERYBODY supports Grunts - without the rest of the Corps, there would be no Grunts cause they would all get hit from the git go cause they wouldn't be able to get around or when they did, they wouldn't have any money/supplies/FOOD/pu$$i (HEY! I have to account for the occasional WM that gets thrown in the mix). LOL!

You guys are confusing Combat Support and Combat Service Support.

Do your home work before answering a poolee's questions.

    S/F
    Finger

Combat forces engage in direct confrontation with enemy forces to kill or capture them, to break their will to continue the fight, and to seize and hold terrain or to deny it to the enemy. Combat support forces provide direct support of the forces on the battlefield by providing firepower, intelligence, communications, engineering, and chemical warfare services of immediate impact on the course of the battle. Combat service support forces provide administrative and technical (logistical) services to ensure that the combat and combat support forces are adequately manned, armed, fed, fueled, maintained, and moved as required.

Thanks hunter and finger sir for the information. Actually sounds interesting.

I had combat support as my mos and I got 7212 Laad gunner. A few guys got Tanks, Lavs and Artillery.

    To Kirax,

Please stop Calling Finger "sir." He is not an officer, he is a First Sergeant. Please learn our rank structure so you know what to call Marines on this site. At the very least when you see a rank insignia that you don't recognize, do a google search and figure out what that rank is. Always call enlisted Marines by their rank, and officers are sir or ma'am.

    Check?
