A man charged Thursday with possession of a weapon of mass destruction was arrested Tuesday by Onslow County Sheriff's deputies with a concealed gun, ax, machete, and Molotov cocktails in his car, about 100 feet from the Hubert Volunteer Fire Department, where his estranged wife's roommate works as a firefighter.

Navy corpsman Gregory Desmond McGill, 25, had outstanding warrants charging him with communicating threats against his wife and trespassing on her roommate's property, which is on Sandridge Road, not far from the fire department.

And while he spent two days in jail charged with making domestic violence threats, detectives found a military M81 time blasting fuse in his home on Glenwood Drive and charged him Thursday with possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

In a restraining order request filed this week at the Onslow County Courthouse, McGill's wife, Tori Lyn McGill, complained that McGill threatened to shoot her and her roommate, Matthew Joseph, over the weekend. The complaint states McGill went to his wife's house on Sandridge Road and threatened her. His wife's roommate told McGill not to come back.

Deputies responded, and while they were reviewing video footage from a surveillance camera at a gas station across the road, McGill again went to the house. Deputies told him he would have to leave and not come back, which he later did, according to the complaint.

The complaint states that McGill's two small children were with him in his car each time he is said to have threatened his wife.

His wife applied for an arrest warrant at the Magistrates Office on Monday and warrants were taken out against McGill for communicating threats and trespassing.

Just past midnight Tuesday, deputies discovered McGill in his vehicle, pulled off the side of Hubert Boulevard with his lights off. He was served the outstanding warrants and also charged with carrying a concealed knife and concealed gun.

He is accused of having a knife on a chain under his shirt and a black .45-caliber pistol in a shoulder harness, according to warrants.

McGill was given a bond of $1,000, but was required to wait in jail two days since he was accused of making threats in a domestic violence situation. After a search of his home, detectives also charged him with the weapon of mass destruction count.

He was given a $2,500 bond and bonded out of jail Thursday afternoon.

McGill is scheduled for a first appearance in court this morning. He is also scheduled for a court appearance in April on charges of identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense in which his wife's roommate is the alleged victim, according to the N.C. Court System.

A Navy Corpsman charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction bonded out of jail a second time this week after a judge increased his bond to $20,000 Friday.

Gregory Desmond McGill, 25, of Glenwood Drive in Hubert, has been charged by the Onslow County Sheriff's Department with the weapons count, communicating threats and trespassing.

He originally had a total bond of $3,500 for the three charges - $2,500 for the weapons count and $500 each for the threats and trespassing counts.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Ernie Lee said when he learned of the situation he told his prosecutors to seek a higher bond during McGill's first appearance in court Friday morning.

Onslow County District Court Judge Sarah C. Seaton raised McGill's bond to $20,000. McGill posted the bond a few hours later.

McGill was arrested Tuesday in possession of a concealed gun, ax, machete and Molotov cocktails in his car. Sheriff's detectives also found a military M-81 time blasting fuse in his home, according to warrants.

Court records state McGill had threatened to shoot his estranged wife and her roommate several times over the weekend.

McGill is stationed at the Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital. His next court date is set for April on charges of identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense in which his wife's roommate is the alleged victim, according to the N.C. Court System.
