was thinkin of times past...we were still puting hay up loose....we used a derick...liked it better then a beaver slide....any way ower gradad was a ornery ol koot...a good day out in the field was when he started picking on one of the other kid...who ever he started on that morning he stuck with all day....being that we were all very young (we were on the stack as soon as we could hold a fork)...we didnt know we didnt have to take his bullieing....one day he started on my older sister ....after bout a cupple hours of his picking my sister had enough ...she wated tilll he was out away from the stack with the team and the buckrake then she sliped off the stack and made a run for it...we were about a mile from our grand parents home on the upper 80...grandad saw her running for the fence stoped, unhooked one of the team , jumped on and took after her...us on the stack were a chearing her on...she beat him to the fence and was gone....my cuzen looked at me and said...gee i didnt know we were alowed to do that....so much for the chearing...ol grandad realy shuved the hay at us the rest of the morning....went to the house at noon...grandmaw chewed him out good.....he was plum humble till he got us back out in the field....started picking on one of us others....ya would of thought he would of been a little nicer being he was getting the work done for free

Montana, that's a good one
I'm bout the only one around here that has even driven a horse pulled hay rake, cutter and so on.
The other day I was telling my hay man bout riding on a combine and tieing the wheat shacks off and trowing them down the ramp then going back and loading them on another trailer and driving the on a tractor to the mill.
He said to me: What is a combine like that? How old to you think I am? I have always had a combine you drive.
I seem to think everybody is as old as me. Ole Well Maybe Not
Just the feeling and power you get walking behind a horse with those ranes in your hand is something I'll never forget
A couple of years ago a neighboro decided to get a horse and get into pulling so I showed him how to put the harness on and do the job. He got pretty good at it.
Only thing I don't miss is plowing on a curved hill
Although I have to admit I do like my tractor
Miss doing all those things I can't do anymore and living on all that land, grandpaw had bout 150 acres and all neighboros round had the same
We all shared in work, baling, haying and so on
Happy Trails
Going to look at that Palamino Geilding after while

About half way through the hay stack, looks like we will make it.
I trimmed Speedy's pigeon toes Sunday, and she looks better from a distance at least.
The other mares and mules dont need it, but they wanted to stand really close by whenI trimmed Speedy.
We were invited by the Grateful Dead to submit videos of ourselves playing their songs. I considered it an honor so we put this one together. They setup a page on youtube to do the "DeadCoversProject" so we had to join youtube. It was WAY to slow to download a 5 minute video so I dont expect to be sharing any kid videos anytime soon, but this one is worth sharing with friends.
We were going for the visual entertainment value of the piano with the front cover removed. The mike wouldnt pickup singing well with that piano opened up so it is just instrumental. You can almost feel the country music feel of this one common in Grateful Dead songs.
I think you can just open this link.

Afternoon Cowboy Marines,
Montana, This new site has messed me up. I finally found this today after about 30 min.
Its been in the 50's at night and 70's during the day for about two weeks and lots of TS our way.
We have lots of mudd in the paddock and riding ring but the rain and warm weather has started getting the pastures looking green again.
Today I let the horses in the yard.
Happy Trails and hope Slinger finds his way back
Hate this new format
Times sure are changing for us old timmers in lots of ways, guess at 62 and almost 63 I can consider myself a old timmer.

Howdy Cowboy Marines,
I sure do miss seeing post by Montana, Slinger and SDK and all of you.
Sure has been pretty weather round here these days and the pastures are looking good.
Picked up a new 9 yr old 14.3 Palamino last week, he was hit by a car a year ago buts O.K. just jumpy and underweight.
Had him a week and he's doing great, not so jumpy anymore and putting on a little weight. You all know it has to be done slow.
He will make a good horse for Karen and the grandkids
Old Cody who is 30 now looks good
Cabinator my horse is looking good also
Solomon the big warm blood I have leased to my wife's cousin and she is doing dressage with him. He is bout 1500 lbs and 16.2 or more.
Got a new little goat last week also for the grandkids to pet. She is 9 mos old and never been touched until I got her. She is already leading and getting friendly.
Its amazing how animals get over the past and move on
Happy Trails

I've been here for a few and have never even bothered to look at this thread...
I know Montana a bit over the years and that's about it, I'm not sure if I'm considered a redneck or what.. got a couple of horses left and a tractor, does that count..??
Live out on the Olympic Peninsula, Wa.. about an hour further West and no more mainland.. just ocean...
