Morning Cowboy Marines,
The Palamino is working out fine except he still breaks out in hives from time to time and I don't know why. His manners are good and he is going to be beautiful but a small horse but perfect for Karen.
Getting TS here but we need the rain for the pastures.
We got a new goat about three weeks ago and she is only 9mos and last week she had a baby and we didn't know she was in the baby way. Karen is in love with that baby.
Cody is now 32 and we can't ride him
Cabinator is looking great and doing great, I love him almost as much as I did Redman but no horse will ever take Redmans place. Me and Redman had many miles togeather.

Afternoon Cowboy Marines,
Hope everybody is doing good, its been chilly here in WNC
Our baby goat is 12 days old now and is doing good, she just jumps around like she has springs on her legs.
Our Palamano is also doing good and has put about 80 pounds now and is ready for a saddle. He is looking good.
Cabinator my horse is also good and is something else
Poor old Cody is around 30 now and is looking good but we can't ride him anymore
That's about all here at Camp Buddy

took a ride up the Flathead river as there isway to much snow in the mountains yet
things are getting quite green in the valy...horses are all sheding and looking good
wonder where Slinger went off to....hope all is ok with him????..he is a wise and interesting man Have three green ones to get i and start working....get the ground work done so when the snow melts enough can head to the mountains...a wet saddle blanket makes for a good horse...put lots of miles on um

Good to hear from you Montana, Yep Slinger is a good man and I miss him on here and I to hope he's O.K.
That's one problem with LN if you don't have any other way to contact you friends and we care about each other.
I do have a private E-mail and FB page and I don't like the changes on LN but if its what I have to keep up with a few of you Marines that I really feel like your my true friends and brothers I'll do it.
Guess I'll saddle up the Palamano this weekend for the first time. Don't know anything about him except that he was way underfeed. Wish people wouldn't get horses unless they could feed and take care of them right.
Wish I could get around as good as I used to but I can't but I keep going anyway

I've been busy this year. I was inspecting equipment for a big growing fire in Utah when my wife called about my mule back home collicking. They had a hell of a day and my tall molly mule Leggs died that afternoon. I have bragged about her here before.
We lost one Forest Service horse while I was away on that 14 day assignment.

The important news though that I logged on to share is that I have accepted a new position in a different district of the same forest. I will be still a rangeland management specialsit but now with wild horse coordination duties as well. It should be quite challenging. Wish me luck and pray for continued blessings from God.



So my place is for sale. 10 acres irrigation 1188sq ft doublewide. rural North NM.

WOW, SDK its soooo good to hear from you.
I had the same thing with Redman while I was on a job and my wife had to handle it and I'm still not over it but my wife did what she could and did the right thing.
Now I have Cabinator who is taking Redmans place

A Cowboy and his boots





A lady went into a bar in Tyler , TX and saw a cowboy with his feet

propped up on a table. He had the biggest boots she'd ever seen on.



The woman asked the cowboy if it's true what they say about men with

big feet being well endowed. The cowboy grinned and said, 'Shore Is,

little lady, Why don't you come on out to the bunkhouse and let me

prove it to you?'



The woman wanted to find out for herself, so she spent the night with

him. The next morning she handed him a $100 bill.



Blushing, he said, 'Well, thank ya, ma'am. Ah'm real pleased. Ain't

nobody ever paid me fer mah services before.'



'Don't be flattered she said...... Take the money and buy yourself some

boots that fit...'

The soaring cost of hay has left many horse owners unable to afford their animals.

Angel's Haven Horse Rescue in Grafton takes in the most critical cases of horse abuse and neglect.

Often the horses are malnourished and have extensive health problems.

With an army of volunteers, the non-profit provides shelter, food and access to veterinary care.

Heidi Sandrev and her mother, Mindy Kazaroff, started Angel's Haven in 2006. To date, they've rescued over 40 horses.

"Painters, Tennessee Walkers, thoroughbreds, minis. We take the most critical cases, and get them up to speed with our volunteers," Sandrev said.

This summer, Angel's Haven has received several calls from families who want the best for their horses, but simply cannot afford them any longer.

The price of hay, usually around $3 to $4 per bale, has shot as high as $17 at auction.

Horses eat up an average of 15 bales per month.

The low supply and high demand is due to the drought.

There's a residual effect, too: The price of oats and other grains could also rise.

Sandrev doesn't foresee the shortage improving until next summer, which will bring the possibility of a better crop.

Hello all....been a long hot summer in these parts....had snow in the mountains a week back but nothing here in the vally....hay up ...traded some hay for two bred cows and a butcher steer....spent a cupple weeks chasing Elk around during archery season..
gave a filly to one of my grandsons and have been starting them both togeather....hes and the filly are both geting a purdy good handle on things....anothe filly that i started earlyer was turned out in the pasture by the house....saw her limping ...checked it out , she had a hole in her hip that i could stick my finger all the way in with room to rome...where and how she did that is way beyond me....been doctoring her....shes bout healed and ready to start working again......rifle season starts week after next....camping gear is about all packed ...horses shod rifles cleaned and sighted...ammo loaded....built a root celler,,,, and put a new roof on our oldest sons house, got the garden all harvested,,,other then that i havent been doing much....gettin lazy in my old age....hay is still $5 a small square here...$120 a ton...was a good hay year...but also set a record for most days in a row with no rain....lots of forest fires around the country...some days couldnt even see the mountains for the smoke

Everything around here is about the same
Its getting colder and we had four inches of snow
Starting to feed more hay since our pasture is almost gone for this year.

All our horses and other critters are fine.
Just been thinking again about how it used to feel plowing with a horse, What power you had at your finger tips. Pulling a wagon wheel flat bed with two horses down the road. I sure do miss those times. Now its all I can do to get up on my horse. Redman used to streach out with his belly almost to the ground for me to get on. Cabinator don't do that.

Thanks for the thoughts about my girls. They are both doing fine. #1 daughter is close to getting her bachelors degree (she already has two associates degrees) and #2 is close to her associates degree and has been accepted at University of North Florida for her bachelors.

Glad to see you posting again and that everything is good with you, Karen, and the horses.
