    VA Question

CAS, I have a friend who received an "Other than Honorable" discharge during his second enlistment. Is he eligible for any VA benefits? Thanks.

    Semper Fidelis,

    Frank

To the best of my knowledge, the answer is no. I am fairly certain the discharge must be an honorable discharge to be eligible for VA benefits.

There are, or at least, were several reasons for a general discharge, not all of which involve bad behavior. One example is for an "existed proir to service" disability which, if discovered would make the individual unfit for duty. Some of those were due to fraud by the individual but some were not intentional and were just missed on the entrance physical. VA benefits were not given to those individuals.

The answer is yes. I addressed FRANK in a PM.
Just to clarify, there is a procedure he needs to do first. He needs a character of discharge upgrade.

    Huh?

Nam and Gulf War vets with an Honorable Discharge get ignored while a person with an "Other then Honorable" discharge can receive treatment?

Help us out with this one CAS3!

    Wondering?

C'mon...how many times do I have to tell everyone it is best to have a representative who can address the VA on your behalf.
If you aren't being helped then there is something wrong with the way you are approaching things.

Could it be that we are a little slow on the up-take?

Youth is like a lump of coal---It requires age to become a Diamond.
