Flags at half-staff in honor of slain NY Marine
January 28, 2009

NEW YORK - New York Gov. David Paterson has directed flags on all state office buildings be flown at half-staff on Friday to honor a local Marine who was killed in Afghanistan.

Lance Cpl. Julian T. Brennan died Saturday while fighting in the Farah province. The New York City resident was assigned to Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Paterson offered his condolences Wednesday to the 25-year-old Brooklyn resident's family, friends and fellow Marines.

Brennan is at least the second Marine from New York City to be killed in Afghanistan this year.

On New Year's Day, Lance Cpl. Alberto Francesconi of the Bronx was killed while fighting in the Helmand province. He also was assigned to Camp Lejeune.
