Marine Aircraft Highlight Community Day at VMI

LEXINGTON, Va., Jan. 8, 2009 – Marines with the Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit will land aircraft on the Virginia Military Institute Parade Ground and bring demonstration teams for a community outreach day Jan. 17 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Marines will display four aircraft – an MV-22B Osprey tilt-wing aircraft, a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter, an AH-1W Super Cobra helicopter, and a UH-1N Huey helicopter. There will also be a squad of infantry Marines with weapons, a Marine sniper team, and Marine Corps Martial Arts Demonstration Team.

The Marines will be training at Fort Pickett and in the surrounding region Jan. 9-24, but will take a day off to interact with the cadets at VMI and members of the surrounding community.
