Well, she's home now & Tuesday we'll take her to our orthopedist ... I know we have to put out the $215- consult fee....but at least we'll have someone who will actually TELL US SOMETHING!!! I cannot believe how Naval is treating our kids! Steph''s not the only one this is happening to! What makes me so very angry is that they VOLUNTEERED for this!! It's her dream and she's being treated like crap! This has been going on since the end of September......

Wow yes ma'am that is some BS they're putting your daughter through. I was stationed in Penscola, FL for A school and kept having sharp pains in my hip while standing and grinding pains after runs and after 5 trips to sick call (the first trip there I waited 6 hours to be seen) and seeing the same doctor all 5 times (she thought it was just a muscle pain and never ordered an x-ray) she referred me to the civilian chiropractor to see if he could figure it out. After he did a range of motion test and asked some questions he ordered some x-rays and then it was discovered that the top of my femur was basically over-grown and the excess bone was grinding against my hip and causing me the pain. So I understand what your daughter is going through and how much of a pain in the ass Medical can be but she just has to keep bugging them until they give her answers. And if it comes down to it she should go to her chain of command to see if they can help persuade the staff at Medical to help her. Best of luck to your daughter ma'am.

Thanks! Medical in FL seems to be better staffed or concerned, I'm not sure which because my daughter's best friend from Boot Camp went to Pensacola with ankle pains. They just put her in a boot and let her go on for schooling. Now she's finished and in the fleet; stationed in LeJuene. My daughter has been denied class because she's still dealing with medical. Had she also gone south, I'm sure she'd be in the fleet now also! Don't understand why naval up here is giving her such a run-around!

What have they done for your problem?

    I hope you're doing well!!

I know the boots you're talking about, we called them robo-boots in Pensacola, and alot of students had to wear them for ankle injuries, shin-splints, and stress fractures. But the Orthopedic doctor I saw referred me to a civilian ortho-specialist in Gainesville, FL who was the one to determine that it was benign bone mass that showed up on the x-rays and not a malignant mass, then I had surgery the next day. But after a few months physical therapy I came to find out I couldn't jog or run without being in pain and was rated as having 10% permenant disability by my Medial Review Board and recommended for medical seperation. But my doctors only gave me a 50/50 chance of full recovery so I kinda knew that being seperated was a possibility, but that's just how my case turned out. Hopefully your daughter will be seen, treated and back to fit for full-duty before too long, but like I said if nothing is being done on the hospital's end of things she should approach her chain of command about it to see if they can help her. Thank you for your sentiments ma'am and I hope your daughter is taken care of and makes her way to A school soon.

Discharge or separation should not be confused with retirement; career U.S. military members who retire are not separated or discharged; rather, they enter the retired reserve and may be subject to recall to active duty.

    Here is the link

I am 8 years in and after three knee surgeries just now reached the point where i really just can't serve anymore. If he is young he can let them kick him out. put the separations pay in an account and try to enlist after he is fully recovered. That is an option.

Did the surgeries not fix your problem?? She just had her surgery, came home for convalescent leave, and is back on base going for therapy.....we're all just praying this surgery worked. Took a full YEAR of running her wild, but they finally did what she was asking all along.

I'm sorry you'll be leaving. If you're like our daughter....this was her dream.

Maybe something good will happen for you!!
