    Gunnery Sergant (RET) question

Quick question : I have a gift for a good friend of mine and he is a Ret. Gunnery Sergant career U.S. Marine Corp. The stories he has of his life in the Marine Corp., I could sit for hours and listen. One of his stories was he was one of the Marines that was with the transport of the first monkey in space after his return, down to his combat stories. Anyhow, I picked him up a gift for his birthday (Sunday) and I wanted to address it to him. What is the best way to address it? Gunnery Sergant McDaniel???? Gunnery Sergant McDaniel (RET) ???? Gunnery Sergant McDaniel (Ret. U.S.M.C.) ????? Thanks, Dave

Well, you could use "Old crusty/salty guy" but he might like that to much.

Honestly though, if you are going to refer to him by his rank then I believe it would be GySgt (Ret.) and his name, but if you want to spell it out then it would be Gunnery Sergeant (Ret.) name.

    Hope that helps.
