Salutes to the marines!

I am deeply honored to have an opportunity to write to America's finest. I just want to say thank you for protecting us and keeping our country free. I'm writing to tell you about a news development I think you all should be aware of. This pertains to a new report that outlines suggestions for how hospitals should respond in the case of a pandemic like bird-flu.

I think that WWII Veterans should make their voices heard loud and clear. This panel, which includes members of the Dept of Homeland Security and Center for Disease Control is telling hospitals that in case the fit hits the shan, that the people age 85 or over should be one of the groups of people to have medical treatment denied if resources start getting stretched thin. I have to say that after risking your lives and fighting for our country, I think that the veterans deserve medical care no matter how old they are!

I've never served in any of the armed forces, and I'm not yet a senior myself, but this seemed serious and an issue that seasoned veterans should be made aware of.

A copy of this protocol is being sent to hospitals all over the nation. I don't think the protocol will just end with pandemic-like conditions. Once the genie is out of the bottle, maybe the policy will filter into less severe conditions.

This is all in the form of an "advisory" report for hospitals to follow. It's a trial balloon. Ironcially, the entire concept of Memorial Day seems lost when our medical care systems are instructed to "forget" the senior veterans.

Would love to toss this one around if anyone is interested.
