Who was the first NBA player to shatter the glass backboard?
I was thinking Dawkins, or maybe Wilt......but nooooooooooo, give up? It was Chuck Conners, yes the Rifleman, the actor, Chuck Connors. "He was the first NBA player to shatter a backboard, he did it while playing for the Boston Celtics in 1946".
We were watching one of his movies at work last night and the topic of Chuck came up, so i did a "IMDB" on him and found out how athletic he really was. MLB, NFL and NBA, pretty impressive. But being the first cat to shatter the backboard was a big surprise. I really thought it was D. Dawkins.
He was also the very likely the only guest commentator on Monday Night Baseball to use the F- word, lol.

It also says Chuck Person was named after him....JB, not sure about the rifle but it seems he could aim a tank and also ski, lol.
"Leaving Seton Hall after two years, on October 20, 1942 he joined the Army, officially listing his occupation as a ski instructor. After enlistment in the infantry at Fort Knox, he later served mostly as a tank-warfare instructor at Camp Campbell, Kentucky, and then finally at West Point. Following his discharge early in 1946."

Cool info. I watched Darrel "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins do it in the Spectrum in Philly in the early 80. I think he did it one more time before that in Atlanta.
Yeah, Conners was also a pretty good baseball player too. I think he played in the Dodgers organization.
