Thanks for all the birthday greetings, but it is far from happy.
My son, age 38, was rushed to the hospital Friday afternoon.
He was put in a medically induced coma on Saturday and is still in one this morning.
They have finally identified the virus that is attacking his lungs and are treating him with everything they have.

I wish to correct myself.
He was put in the coma on Monday. Time is a blur and I'm not sleeping very well.

He was moved from a 4 "room" unit with a nurse and a tech on Saturday, to Medical Intensive Care, each single person rooms with a nurse and tech per two rooms.

Latest update is he is holding his own, but the lungs need more time to heal. Till then, they keep him under just enough so that the tubes in his throat, lungs and stomach stay put.

Thank you for all the prayers.
And I did have a catholic priest in to see him this afternoon.
If this goes sour, he'll meet his maker with a clean soul.

Fred, Thanks for the update, I know its hard at times like this but I'm glad you keep us informed because after all were Brothers and we care about you. Special Prayers out to you and your family tonight.

OK, today is frustration day....
I'm trying to make sure all his bills are getting paid.. so.. here is part of a phone conversation:

Customer Service at car finance company:
Good Morning --- How may I help you?

Me: Hi, I'm so and so and I need help. My son is ... in coma... want to pay bill...

CS: I'm sorry sir, but he will need to give us permission to speak to you about this matter.
Me: Ah... like I said, he's in a medical coma... how do I get his permission for you?
CS: I'm sorry sir, but I am not allowed to discuss this unless he gives his permission....
Me: Look, all I want is the amount and the address to send it to.
CS: I'm sorry sir, as I have said, he must give permission...
Me: And like I said, HE'S IN A COMA!!!
CS: I'm sorry sir. I hope he gets better. Is there anything else I can do for you??
Me: Yes, put a supervisor on the phone!

Hang in there Fred.
I can't imagine how stupid some people are. Don't know whats going to happen in this world today. Miss the days it had a personnal touch and everybody cared about you and had to work to get your business. Now day your lucky if you speak to a person instead of pushing a button.

......FRED, see if you can get "power of attorney" for your son. I got it when my Mother was in ICU, just at the end of her life at 86. Should be......pretty easy! Let "US" know if that works!
