A marching cadence I recall from '79;
The prettiest girl, I ever saw, was sipping boubon, through a straw
{refrain the above}
I picked her up, I laid her down, her golden hair, laid on the ground
{refrain the above}
...and now I have, a mother-in-law, and 13 kids, who call me pa
{refrain the above}
The moral of, the story is, instead of bourbon, stick to beer
{refrain the above}
Lo righta leyft

another one,
Around her neck, she wore a yellow ribbon
she wore it in the springtime and in the month of May
and if you asked her why the f@ck she wore it
she wore it for her young Marine, so far far away
far away, far away, She wore it for her young Marine, so far far away.
Her father kept, a shotgun in the closet
he kept it in the sprigtime and in the month of May
and if , you asked, him why the f@ck he kept it
he kept it for her young Marine, so far far away
far away, far away, he kept it for her young Marine, so far far away.
And then, one day, she got a yellow letter,
she got it in the springtime and in the month of May.
and if you asked her what the f@ck was in it,
it told that her young Marine, was dead and blown away
blown away, blown away, It told that her young Marine, was dead and blown away

There are some CDs you can download that have about 30ish cadences on each one, and they aren't the ones you hear all the time.

I was never one for the moto cadences.
I love eatin' at Taco Bell
And if you don't like it you can go to hell
Ate too many tacos, failed a PFT
The master sergeant stuck me on BCP
Chorus:
But I'm motivated
Truly dedicated
To the Corps, your Corps, my Corps, our Corps, Marine Corps
C-130 rollin' down the strip
Oh my God, it just got hit
So stand up, buckle up, shuffle to the door
'Cause the airplane's ceiling just became the floor
So jump outside, take a look around
And pull your 'chute before you hit the ground
And if that 'chute don't open wide
You'll be splattered on the countryside
And if that happens, it sucks to be you
The parachute rigger's got some 'splainin' to do
"But Captain, Captain, don't you see?
Huffing canned air wasn't good to me...
(Chorus)
Mama an' Papa were laying in bed
Papa rolled over, said "Give me head"
Mama replied with a sexy grin,
"Only if you do that thing with your chin"
Singin' low-righta leigh-o
(transition)
Mama an' Papa were laying in bed
Mama rolled over, this is what she said,
"If you're gonna be a drill instructor
You'd better shave off all of your hair
If you're gonna be a drill instructor
I don't wanna **** a grizzly bear"
Singin' low-righta leigh-o
(transition)
Fill my Camelback up with beer
The liquor store was outta Everclear
Got a cigarette in hand, and a can of chew
Spit at the shinies as we're rollin' through
Singin' LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT (spit)
Left right left right, you know I will
Page 11, Page 11, NJP
That's how the paperwork's gone for me
Then they caught me with a gram of weed
They booted me out with a BCD
(Chorus)
Me and Superman, we got in a fight
Hit him on the head with some Kryptonite
Hit him so hard that I messed up his brain
And now I'm bangin' Lois Lane
Singin' low right-a-leigh-o
(transition)
Me and Spiderman, we got in a fight
Missed him with the left, hit him with my right
Smashed his skull and I crushed his brain
Now I'm bangin' Mary Jane
And she's motivated
(finish chorus)
Gotta work off the Monster and the Pepsi, too
And don't forget about the Mountain Dew
All that soda made me slow
But a handle of bourbon is good to go
(transition)
(Do the One Two, Three, Four cadence, except everyone shouts "Cream Corn" instead)
Turkey dinner just wasn't for me
Mashed potatoes were too juicy
Threw them mashed potatoes on the floor
Smashed my fork and said "Gimme some more"
Singin' one two... (finish chorus)
Back in 1775
The Cream Corn came alive
Saw it yesterday in the chow hall line
Two hundred years and it's doin' fine
(chorus)
I opened up my MRE
Cream Corn was staring back at me
I gulped it down and I wanted more
Tasted real good, but my ass is sore
(chorus)
I usually get to the "Then they caught me with a gram of weed" part before some motard starts yelling at me. No sense of humor, some people...

Help with A Cadence
Hello all!
I've been a member on here for a few years now and know how helpful the Marines on this site can be. I'm hoping you can help me out a bit here.
I'm in graduate school and beginning work for my Master's thesis that's focused on USMC running and marching cadences. As I've been collecting and listening to cadences, I came across a version of "Give Me That Old Marine Corps Spirit," and I'm having some trouble in making out a few of the names of locations and Marines mentioned.
Here's the link to the exact cadence I'm talking about.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09YqEcO2gNs
The areas in question are:
-The first battle/place mentioned in the Vietnam section (approx. time marker 1:10).
-The beginning of the section talking about middle eastern events from the 70s/80s (marker 1:33)
-Also, to clarify, the references to General Joe/Uncle Joe I'm guessing reference Major General Joseph Pendleton. Any idea if this is right?
Thanks for any help or clarification!

D.I. Cadence-Calling In Boot Camp
I know some of you know that LitLover84, a member here, is doing research for an M.A. (and later a PhD) on the subject of cadence calling in the USMC----not that narrow a topic--lots more to it than that---but she could use some help here and there, has received help from some members here, but I suggested I begin this thread, in part to see exactly or approximately when cadence by D.I.s became "sing song" or lyrics thrown in, as opposed to just calling cadence "regularly".
In 1963 there was no sing-song cadence like "I left my gal at home. I sure hope she don't roam". That kind of thing. On the other hand, some members here, just 4 or so short years later did in fact have D.I.s that used the lyrics---and I would imagine that AFTER boot camp, maybe at Lejeune or at Pendleton, that sing-song cadence might have been/is more prevalent---but I don't know.
She could use your help, folks.

So as not to limit this to when the sing song cadence began, any help at all that you can give her as to cadence-calling generally----would be appreciated. She can chime in here with her own specific areas of interest/research.

(She is going to explain the big picture here in a short while, to put everything into context as to why she is researching this particular topic etc)
