Officials release name of Marine found dead at Twentynine Palms

Twentynine Palms, Calif. (AP) --


Officials have released the name of a Marine found slumped over his work station at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms as Pvt. Jeffrey W. Slaten.


Officials say the 24-year-old from Lee, Ala., was declared dead Monday after being discovered by fellow Marines. The circumstances surrounding Slaten's death are under investigation and Marine officials say no further details are immediately available.


Slaten was was an electrical equipment repair specialist serving at Twentynine Palms. He joined the Marine Corps on July 13, 2005. He served one tour in Iraq.
