    Mess Nights

OK! I know there are some stories floating around out there about mess nights. My squadron is having one soon, for personnel only, and I have never been to one. Someone told me there is a 'mysterious' handbook as to how these things are ran. Any comments? Stories?

The Mess Night book that you seek is in front of you. You need to search within your unit.

Find record of past messnights. You will find the handbook.

I offer this link to Mess Night 1986 for ideas:

Also, I have a toast that may fair pretty well for this Mess Night:

"Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting, and drinking....

    - If you cheat, may you cheat death
    - If you steal, may you steal a woman's heart
    - If you fight, may you fight for a brother
    - And if you drink, may you drink with me!"

    .

As I recall, it is a good way for the superiors to find out what a person is like, after they had too much to drink.

Same thing happens in the 1st Civ Div, at a Team Building Meeting, when everyone breaks for drinks and them little samiches at the end of the day. Trust me, I have seen careers ruined by daylight.

If you go, drink colored water, smile a lot, excuse yourself from becoming involved in any thing off color or out of line.

Never leave late or last. Watch the crowd. When it starts to thin, boogie out.

Your so right on all accounts. You jogged my memory on your posting. Oh yeah watchout for the ones that leave early, nobody wants to leave early. I just sat and watched and laughed my 6 off on some of them.

As Al and Gunny said, keep your military bearing and although a mess night is a celebration of brother and sisterhood and Esprit de Corps and Semper Fidelis.

Watch your P's & Q's at this function. Follow your seniors lead if they are of the Marine professional type. Be professional yourself and make sure that you take sips for the toasts as you don't want to be fit for human consumption in the morning. But enjoy the experience.

Well it sounds like something that will be an experience. Is it moto of me to be anxious to get into my blues again?

Speaking of uniforms for the Mess Night. Be sure that there aren't any discrepancies with whatever uniform you are going to wear. The smallest detail will be srewtinized. Especially Russian Ropes, badge alingments,etc...

When are you having the Mess Night? Make sure that you post pictures of it.

I will most definitely post some pictures on here for your guys entertainment! I know you will like them! As far uniform discrepancies go, I'm a squared away Devil Dog. No need to worry.. although I wonder if the Marine that wore white socks with his blues will be there this time.... (snicker snicker)

You catch my drift. It is your duty as a Marine NCO to squareaway any and all discrepancies during the Mess Night. Especially if they are not an NCO. We are looking forward to the pass in review of the Mess Night.

Tegan, you and I have PM'd on several different occasions, on several different issues.

What Chuck and Ed have said is quite true.

You are a Marine. Epitomize one. Do it right. Be squared away.

As it was written above, you WILL be scrutinized. Not so much for the WM part, but for the MARINE part.

Don't forget the pictures, but do not be obnoxious with the camera.

    end

Make sure your bladder is empty before entering the dining area or it will be.

Mr. Vice this Marine has learned that a corpsman has fallen in the head and I request permission to render assistance immediately.

Mr. Vice response ..... sit down and pay a dollar fine.

You a few minutes later..... Mr. Vice there is a fire in the head that I request permission to put out ASAP.

Mr. Vice response ...... sit down and pay a dollar fine.

By then your eyes are turning yellow and you are gritting your teeth.

Mr. Vice this Marine will gladly pay a 10 dollar fine for permission to take a leak.

Mr. Vice .... you have 30 seconds or it will be a 20.... Go

    The order is:
MARINE CORPS DRILL AND CEREMONIES MANUAL
Appendix D covers the Mess Night
