Volunteers have rescued two Marines who slipped several hundred yards from an icy trail below a tramway near Palm Springs, but a woman remains missing in the same area.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department says the 53-year-old woman was reported missing Sunday morning. She rode the tramway to an elevation of about 8,500 feet and planned to attempt to reach the summit of Mount San Jacinto.

Authorities say Marine Sgt. Lucas Ellison and Marine Sgt. Lance Chatagier, both 26 years old, were helped out of dangerous ice and cliffs by volunteers using ropes and crampons.

The Marine Corps says the men are stationed in Twentynine Palms. There is no word yet on any injuries.

The two used a cell phone to call for help Saturday night.
