    Question.

I spoke with my recruiter today and stated that since I have 4 dependents (as of July 2008 that is), I am a no go for active duty. Now E4B helped me out with the Reservist to Active Duty question, thanks again, but they are telling me only 4 reservist jobs are in my area(in PA) and that if I don't register at MEPS and ship out in January that I will not get those jobs and will have to wait a year until any jobs come open. They are kinda rushing me to call off work and go down this Friday to MEPS. I'm a little confused. I am unsure if I should since the thought of going Active duty is probaby a no go. I wanted to serve as an Active Duty Marine. I am awere that Reservist play a big part too, but I wanted to travel and do much more that I can't as a Reservist. Any advice would help.

    Thank You,

dont let them rush you they always try to do that with people to see if they can skip over like bonus's or the specifics of your contract. Trust me they are trying to up their numbers be patient, go to several diffrent recruiters if you have to but I GUARENTEE you'll get what you want eventually.

They may be telling you the truth, they may not. Reserve jobs are limited to what is open at the local reserve units. If you're willing to travel then that eliminates some of the problems.

But, the worst case scenario is that you have to wait until the new fiscal year to enlist (Oct. 1). It may not be what you want, but if you wait and there really is a shortage of openings then that may be what you're left with.

    Douglas,

I understand that you want to go active and the reserve is not what you had hoped for. Your wife and two on the flight line and one in the hangar is the reason for not being able to go active. This I have been following through out your posts. I admire your tenacity to want to be a Marine. A couple of questions I pose to you.

Where do you want to travel to ? In todays world, reserves can be activated very quickly.

How does your wife feel about this?

Are you and your family prepared for you to take off to PI MCRD and leave the wife and kids behind...without that income of your work? Again I don't know your finacial situation and by no means am I trying to find out how much you earn. The question is are they secure enough to be left while your in boot camp if its a go? Especially with the one in the hangar.

Just some opinions and food for thought.

    Douglas,
Your Dad is a Marine and you grew up in Jacksonville. The idea of enlisting MUST have hit you earlier in life before the wife and 3 kids at age 25. Why now? Could it be that you're trying to escape from your obligations?

I'm really questioning your motives here.

ps. You do know where babies come from right? Maybe you should watch some TV once in a while.

Turns out I hurt his feelings when I called a spade a spade.

He wants to dress it up as trying to do something better for his wife and family. We all know how much they'll benefit by his enlistment.

I have not been following your posts so therefor I will not make any judgments. As a reservist you can do a little traveling, but it will be without your family. For instance...we had some reservists come out here to Okinawa to see what we do on the active duty side. They were out here for 2-3 weeks. They were nice, they tried being the boss about things at the beginning but they learned otherwise. Just out of curiosity...what jobs are you limited to?

I tried that once, watching T.V. I think it was a porn, which is why my wife and I have 2 kids now....guess it doesn't work for everyone.
