Sheriff’s deputies in Moffat County, Colo., arrested a 19-year-old Marine on Monday on a federal desertion warrant, Marine officials confirmed Wednesday.

Pfc. Aaron Burl left his initial training school July 21 before earning a specific military occupational specialty in the communications field, said Corps spokesman Maj. Jay Delarosa.

Burl was considered absent without leave until Aug. 21, when he was placed in deserter status, Delarosa said.

The Marine Corps Absentee Collection Unit was notified that Burl is being held by the Moffat County Sheriff’s Department and has dispatched military escorts to pick him up and return him to the Corps’ custody, Delarosa said.
