Naval Academy officials and Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents are investigating an alleged sexual assault at the school.

The alleged assault involved two midshipmen and occurred in the early morning hours of Oct. 14 in Bancroft Hall, where all mids live.

“Only after the investigation is complete and the facts known will the academy decide how to proceed with the allegations,” according to a statement released Tuesday by the school.

Academy officials declined to comment further on the incident.

The Naval Academy has been rocked by repeated sex scandals in recent months.

On Oct. 29, a former Naval Academy team doctor is to be court-martialed on charges that he secretly recorded midshipmen engaging in sexual activities at his Annapolis home.

Last year, two Academy football players were charged with rape.

Former midshipman Lamar S. Owens was acquitted of raping a female midshipman in her dormitory room but was convicted of two lesser counts of failing to obey a lawful order and conduct unbecoming an officer.

A military jury sentenced Owens to no punishment, but former academy Superintendent Vice Adm. Rodney P. Rempt dismissed Owens from the academy without the degree for which he had academically qualified.

Months later, a second midshipman, Kenny Ray Morrison, was convicted of sexually assaulting one female midshipman and acquitted of assaulting a second midshipman. Morrison was sentenced to two years in prison and dismissed from the Navy.
