    A fighter

    Dedicated to a fighter. No it's not Muhamad Ali or Mike Tyson. I dedicate this to my second son Andrew Grant Ouellette, who departed this earth life at 1209 CST.

    Andrew Grant Ouellette.
    We named you after Andrew Jackson and Ulysses S. Grant.
    You lived up to your names.

    Your brain started to bleed,
    a category four.
    You clenched your fists,
    you decided to endure

    And then pneumonia attacked your right lung,
    you just clinched your fists.
    You were not going to give up.

    Your blood pressure dropped,
    and still you decided to persist.
    Your eyebrows furrowed;
    you clenched your little fist.

    Tubes wouldn't deter your courage,
    you were digging in for a fight.
    You showed the doctors what you were made of;
    and who was right.

    This morning, they put you on 100% oxygen,
    and fentanyl to boot.
    You didn't budge an inch,
    you didn't scoot.

    Again you clenched your fists,
    ready for a fight.
    You wouldn't give up,
    you knew what was right.

    I decided you had enough;
    you had gone above and beyond.
    The ventilator would be stopped;
    the tubes taken off.

    You passed away slowly in your parents arms;
    fighting to the end.
    A profile in courage until the end.

    Now you dwell with angels,
    and Marines who guard Heaven's scenes.
    You showed all the medical staff;
    you were the son of a Marine.

    Go with God now,
    and be at peace my son.
    Your war is now over;
    your battle you have won.

    Rest in peace my son

    Andrew Grant Ouellette
    born: St. Mary's Hospital Clayton Missouri 11 October 2007 at 2242
    departed earth life: Cardinal Glennon Hospital 18 October 2007 1209CST.

    Semper Fidelis my son, from my warriors code.

    Take your place in Heaven now with the warriors of old.

    To the Marines at Heaven's gate,
    I give you this charge.
    Let him pass with honors;
    his struggle has been hard.

    For he is a warrior,
    one of strong heart.
    He fought hard for a week,
    and did his part.

    He many not have gone to San Diego;
    or experienced Parris Island Sun.
    He may not have drilled on a grinder;
    but he is one tough son.

    Please render him a salute;
    for he put up a major fight.
    Allow him to pass to glory;
    into everlasting light.

    Semper Fidelis,

    Signed his father,

    A former United States Marine.
