The mis-spelling is common - I really dislike when it's mis-pronounced as corpse.

I would have to agree. That is by far one of the most annoying things I hear from non-Marines. Try teaching an Air Force brat everything she would need to know about the Marine Corps so you and your wife could have a conversation about work. She still looks at me like I am crazy every time. I do have a question for the Poolees though.

Who said this famous quote and why was he so important.

"I have only two men out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold."

General Clifton B. Cates in Belleau Wood. He was the 19th commandant of the Marine Corps and was awarded the Navy cross.

If you go back through the miles of this thread you might find the answer to this question. Reading and re-reading all this great info would improve anyones knowlege.

Here is the question: There is a Marine Corps rank insignia currently in our inventory and authorized for wear that has never been worn. What is it?

    (1) Who was the first African American Marine to receive the Medal of Honor?
    (2) Who was the youngest Marine to receive the MOH?

If answered correctly (I'll join you):
    (1) 2 minutes of hello dollys and 25 korean jumping jacks
    (2) 25 Marine Corps push-ups and 2 minutes of hello dollys

If answered wrong, both questions (I'll join you):
DOUBLE IT and add a 3 mile run
