SAN DIEGO — A drill instructor was charged for allegedly subjecting recruits to abusive methods at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Marine prosecutors said Saturday.

Sgt. Mark A. Delarosa faces eight counts of violating a general order, seven counts of assault, four counts of making a false official statement, two counts of provoking speech, and one count of cruelty and maltreatment, Marine spokeswoman Maj. Kristen Lasica.

Lasica said Delarosa’s case is unrelated to that against Sgt. Jerrod Glass, who was arraigned last month on 225 charges involving the alleged abuse of recruits under his supervision.

Delarosa could not immediately be reached for comment. His court-martial is scheduled for Monday.

Glass will be court-martialed Nov. 8, Lasica said.

Another instructor, Sgt. Brian M. Wendel, faces assault and other charges for allegedly abusing recruits. His arraignment is set for Monday morning.
