The Corps’ new selective re-enlistment bonuses went into effect June 24, offering a maximum of $80,000 to Marines who sign on for four more years of service at any point through Sept. 30, 2008.

The new bonuses mark the first time the Marine Corps has offered flat-rate incentives based on rank, military occupational specialty and time in service. Previous re-enlistment bonus programs were based on a Marine’s monthly pay multiplied by the number of years on the new contract, times the “multiple” assigned to the Marine’s MOS.

The new bonus program, announced in MarAdmin message 349/07 during the first week of June, also expands eligibility to Marines with up to 20 years in service, another first.

Under the new program, Marines scheduled to end their active service next fiscal year can re-enlist immediately instead of waiting until that fiscal year begins Oct. 1, 2007.
