    Logistics 0411 Questions

Being a somewhat ignorant father of a new US Marine, I was wondering if there is someone out in Leatherneck world that could share some insight into this MOS. My son is almost finished with MCT and is headed to this school next. He signed up for Logistics field and this is what he was assigned.

To be honest, I can research and find the general description of the job and I have, but I'm more interested in real world examples of what he might be doing, possible PDS's, where he can advance to over time, etc. So for you experienced Marines out there, what can you tell me?

Thanks in advance for you comments!

I was an 0411... what would you like to know specifically?

    1) What do 0411's typically do on a day-to-day basis?

    2) Would you call it an exciting and fun job? Or is it more mundane?

    3) Where might they be assigned to (locations)?

    4) What are the best assignments for 0411's in your opinion?

    5) What is an assignment (if any) you would try to avoid (not that he has a choice in the matter, just asking)?

    6) Do 0411's stay as such or do they typically move to alternate MOS's?

    7) What other intangible advice would you give to a young Marine starting out in the field?

I hope that is more specific. Thanks in advance for helping me understand things.

    1) What do 0411's typically do on a day-to-day basis?

Basically an 0411 (non nco) Works in a maintenance shop and is the middle man between supply and the techs. the 0411 monitors progress of work that is being done, checks on status of repair parts and reports to the MMO maintenance management officer.

    2) Would you call it an exciting and fun job? Or is it more mundane?

I liked it because you have a chance to get hands on with diffrent types of gear, Example: i was with an 3rd ecehlon optics shop in olkinawa, I got to learn how night vision worked and about diffrent componets of ordenance gear.
    3) Where might they be assigned to (locations)?
More than likely he will be assigned to a ground unit. 0411 does not usually have a spot with the air-wing, although i did get stationed with the wing i didnt do 0411 duties there.

    4) What are the best assignments for 0411's in your opinion?
3rd or 4th Ecelon shops.... thats where things get down and dirty...

    5) What is an assignment (if any) you would try to avoid (not that he has a choice in the matter, just asking)?

there all about the same.... with exception of the wing, he wont be doing much 0411 (MIMMS) there....

    6) Do 0411's stay as such or do they typically move to alternate MOS's?

I stayed an 0411 the whole time, altough he may have a chance to lat move after his first enlistment is up.

    7) What other intangible advice would you give to a young Marine starting out in the field?

MOS school is confusing, You will learn a whole lot more about the job once your in the fleet... Once there, ask a lot of questions to the NCO's around you, they know what they are doing. They much rather you ask them questions than messing something up and trying to fix it.... write down everything they teach you... 4 years later i was still refering to the notes i took.

I hope that is more specific. Thanks in advance for helping me understand things.

By the way MIMMS stands for

Thanks, zx6rdr! That's some great info and advice I can share with my son.

One more question, what do you mean when you say '3rd or 4th Echelon shops'?

  6. #6
there are 4 echelon's of maintenance, Example:

1ST Ech- Changing a flat tire
    2ND Ech- Changing oil/spark plugs/ect
    3RD Ech- Replacing Transmission
    4TH Ech- Rebuilding Transmission

Its a Stair step system, The farther up you go the more difficult the maintenance.

    Corporal Boggs:

Thanks so much for your service to this great nation and for your response to this post.

My son is now a 0411 MIMMS Clerk in Motor T. He is in the 1/3 at Kaneohe Bay. In fact we are going to vacation and visit with him some next week. He has been the best source of info on his job and appears to be very much loving the Marine Corps. So I guess in that sense there is no need for the cheat sheet anymore.

I wish you and your fellow Marines the best in your endeavors.

    Best Regards!

Well its not like cheating really its just basic mimms info on one sheet so you do not have to go back in reference so much. but I am very happy that he is enjoying the marines.

I was in 1/3 Motor T in Kaneohe from 91-94 and they didn't have a mimms clerk (a school trained 0411) at the time, so I volunteered to take the job and was eventually OJT'd the MOS. I got my first NAM for doing that job. I can't really say much more then what's been said to be honest, you've been given some great info from these other Marines. I miss Kaneohe Bay I can tell you that! The job itself was cool but I wasn't much of a desk and paperwork guy so it got to me after a while. It's a very important position, he'll interact with supply a lot and if he's doing his job correctly he'll basically keep the motor pool running, or at least have the parts they need to keep it running.

    0411 training

Hello Cpl Boggs, my son just graduated Marine Corp Boot Camp at MCRD. He's home for 10 and then headed back for MCT. After MCT, he will be headed to 0411, Maintenance Management Specialist school in North Carolina. First, how long is the school and is it possible to get a copy of your MIMMS cheatsheets? vibesrus@sbcglobal.net

Thanking you in advance for any info/insight for his next step.

Proud father of a United States Marine

well, not that they will get rid of the MOS, but they will be doing a lot less leg work with the new logistics system that is coming into play in the near future... It's oracle based. GCSS-MC very very very high speed stuff, you son would make lots of money if he has experience with oracle in the civilian world... so he's lucky.

    Hello Cpl Boggs,
Could you please email me the MIMMS 0411 cheatsheet? My email address is wardfam@northstate.net
My daughter just received a letter from her fiance stating that he would be assigned this and he doesn't know what it involves or what it is.... Thanks very much...
