Officers, and Corman's carry pistols. The Marine Issued Pistol is theM1911. They work good with sand, although it still jams.

M 9 mm Beretta Pistol, yes is used to day for Marine, But not all Marines get treated with this, there are also new models of the M1911 out in Iraq. Sorry I should of stated it more clearly. In 1985 the United States Armed Forces replaced the M1911 with the Beretta 92 F. The reasone, the US was only a NATO Country not useing the 9mm. ALTHOUGH! The M1911 is a lighter pistol and for Scout Cavs they go off the Issued gun and give a .45. I guess we wanted to be as light as possibly.

There are some units with the 1911, the fellas in Quantico make a great pistol off of the old frames called the MEU(SOC) pistol. But, most Marines with pistols use the M9--- but most Marines don't have pistols.

There was a recent article on here about most people that their T/O weapon is a pistol will have it replaced by a M-4 carbine. Hey flash the .45 is a heavier weapon with heavier ammo. It is also the preferred secondary weapon of special ops Marines. After initial distribution of the M-9 it was taken out of service until 1989 it was retro fitted with a improved slide block. We were the first Nato country to use it.

I haven't heard of the regular M1911 still being used at all in the FMF. I know that MEU's Recon Platoons and MARSOC use the MEU(SOC). I haven't heard of anyone else other than shooting teams. The Beretta M9 is standard issue even in Recon Battalions. I don't know who hooked you up Flash, but you were an exeption to the rule.
