    Does Anyone remember this??

It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video
of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the
    Reagan Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but
    what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to
$60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't
    that just a little excessive?"

    "No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce
it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed
at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid of this
    man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie
    answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be
formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."
The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of
    the clip.

By the way, that senator was Al Gore

    Also:

Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis
captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the
Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political
    prisoners."

However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands, The
American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State,
Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released.

Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an
airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many
of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first
identified. It was censored in the US from all later reports.

    Dang, now isn't that interesting?

Ollie, as dispicable as i find his behavior, has, to his credit, debunked this urban legend. In 1987 Osam Bin Laden was obstensibly an ally of the US in the war against the soviets in Afghanistan.

This is one of those baloney stories that the right wing nut jobs would have you believe is true.

Check on www.snopes. com. A good site for checking out BS.

The story about Ollie is partially true, except the terrorist that made the threats was not OBL...it was another one.....as far as right wing nuts go, I'm one .......rather be that than a left wing liberal marxist !!! I'll go for right wing bullsh!t anytime before I'd go with left wing truths !!!

And what was wrong with Lt.Col. North ? He did as he was asked by his superiors, he was a Marine following orders, and took the heat from higher up. Id let him cover my 6 anyday,he stayed true.

    Roger That Shooter1.

Lt.Col. North impressed me the most with his bearing under fire. Thoose Senators towards the end were just fishing to make him loose his bearing and he never gave them the satisfaction. He took the wrap for something that went much higher up.

Hollywood probably made "A Few Good Men" just so America could see a Marine loose his bearing in a sort of weird "appeasement".

Can anyone tell me what a Code Red is? I've heard of blanket parties. Hello at least do your research, before you try and slam my Corp!

I've done that before - with regards to LtCol North, The Iran-Contra Affair (see 'The October Suprize' - in an earlier posting).

I've said it before, and I will CONTINUE TO SAY IT!!

Duck and Cover. Too many Duck and Cover people around. Throw stuff out here to PI** people off and THEN WON'T BACK IT UP WITH FACTS!!!!!!!!

In MY MARINE CORPS, we didn't have POLITICAL OPINION. I Tend to keep mine to myself even today.

Especially when MARINES are on the freakin SAND NOW.

Maybe, just MAYBE you "DUCK AND COVERS" should HEED THE WORD, and keep the comments to yourself while your BROTHERS PREPARE TO SACRIFICE.

One of the most enduring Leadership Charateristics of the Marine NCO is LEADERSHIP BY EXAMPLE. SHOW SOME.

Also, it was not Al Gore. It was the counsel for whatever committee was holding the hearing. Al Gore may actually have still been still in the house at the time.
