    Khe Sanh plane crash

Does anyone remember the C-130 crash during a sled drop in the fall of 1967? I have been trying for years to remember the marines name from the commmunications company that was trying to chop the crew member out of the cables with a fire ax.

A Air Force C-130 crashed into the cloud-covered eastern end of the roadway. It was loaded with sand bags. It crashed into 400-500 barrels of RC-3 asphalt and burst into flames. Of the crew of eight on board, 6 died, and 2 others got out, with injuries. Many Marines rushed to try to get the 6 out who trapped, but were forced to abort because of the flames/heat.

The communications unit was 1st Radio Battalion. They have a website by the same name. They have listings of all marines and others that served upcountry from DongHa north. I was a telecommunication and crypto repair tech(MOS 2815) in DaNang, Dong Ha and all points north including Khe Sanh from December 67 to June 70. The detachment there were members of my unit.
