Valentine Visits For Vets - Veterans Not Forgotten

UPDATED: 9:22 pm CST February 11, 2007

MADISON, Wis. -- The VA Hospital in Madison was buzzing with activity on Sunday.

Active Marines, Bucky Badger and even UW Basketball coach Bo Ryan saluted hospitalized vets.

The day of observance was timed with Valentine's Day as a way to share sentiments of caring and appreciation for vets.

The bedside visits included gifts, storytelling and a chance for those in the hospital to know they have not been forgotten.

"Your brothers, your comrades are off fighting or doing something," said Staff Sgt. Timothy Lasage. "To know that people are here looking for you because they want to know for sure that you are doing all right. It means a lot."

The Annie's Mailbox column is asking readers send Valentines to vets during the holiday.

More than 1 million cards and letters were sent last year.
