O-8 nominations announced

President Bush has nominated nine Marines to receive a second star, according to a Defense Department statement released Thursday.

Pending approval by Congress, the following Marines will be promoted:

* Brig. Gen. Richard T. Tryon, commanding general, Marine Corps Recruiting Command, Quantico, Va.

* Brig. Gen. Frank A. Panter Jr., assistant deputy commandant for installations & logistics (plans), Washington, D.C.

* Brig. Gen. John F. Kelly, legislative assistant to the commandant of the Marine Corps, Washington, D.C.

* Brig. Gen. Terry G. Robling, director, Strategy and Plans Division, Washington, D.C.

* Brig. Gen. Mastin M. Robeson, commanding general, 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan.

* Brig. Gen. Thomas L. Conant, director of Capabilities Development Directorate and Joint and External Matters, Quantico.

* Brig. Gen. Robert E. Schmidle Jr., deputy director for resources and acquisition, Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.

* Brig. Gen. Thomas D. Waldhauser, chief of staff, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

* Brig. Gen. John R. Allen, deputy commanding general, II Marine Expeditionary Force, and commanding general, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
